It seems these days that shows can be filmed anywhere and made to be looked like they were filmed at that city. Many of the comedy shows are filmed in LA but are set in NYC - like Friends and HIMYM.
I think it really depends on $$$. NYC is VERY expensive to film or keep a studio. If you look at the soap opera world, ABC yanked All My Children away from NYC and to LA because of costs. Granted they cancelled it later on. The remaining ones that are still filming are all in LA. It's cheaper surprisingly. |

^That was my thinking. It's one thing to film the pilot on location but for an entire run, New York might be too expensive.
I think, for ABC precedence, Ugly Betty and Castle filmed their pilots in New York than moved to LA for production. (Ugly Betty moved back to New York in the third season.) Last edited by Lucy Pearl; 03-13-2012 at 02:54 PM |

They may move back to LA and then do certain scenes in NY every few episodes. I think The Good Wife may film in NY? My sister always sees Alan Cummings b/c he lives near her job. They film Smash in NY. The city does give tax breaks to film here.

I rather they stay in NY. Fashion I think of NY or Paris and I doubt they would go to Paris.
LA has enough shows filming there, it will soon get overcrowded or something Here is news on where Americana is filming on Wednesday & thursday Quote:
