To Whom It May Concern - Discussion

Lorelai forces Jackson to tell her the reason for Sookie's odd behavior; Luke and Anna attend a hearing to decide their custody battle; Rory makes amends with Lucy, with Paris' help.

RoxyBlueGirl7 01-30-2007 07:57 PM

I loved the Richard/Rory scene in his office. I don't know when the last time was that we saw Rory and Richard really talk, and I just liked seeing him try to comfort her.

Liza's hair was really pretty in her last scene.

catkirk7 01-30-2007 08:25 PM

ITA, Roxy. The Richard/Rory scene was my favorite part of the episode. I wish we'd gotten a few scenes between the two of them earlier in the season. A lunch on campus or something.

ETA: I gotta say, having been spoiled, the letter really did not live up to the build up. I thought it was kind of generic.

RoxyBlueGirl7 01-30-2007 09:07 PM

I wasn't too impressed with the letter either. It was all true, and obviously she didn't want to make it really long, but I thought there would be more.

go_clo 01-30-2007 09:19 PM

Loved the episode!

Aww the letter  I didn't even know they would read the letter out but it did and it was awesome! Soooooo sweet and soooooo true! I loved how they presented it off where you could hear the judge read it and then when they switched to Lorelai, you could hear her reading it. It just made it much more...I dont know...real or powerful or something. It just made it easier for us to imagine her writing it.

YAY!!! Luke got custody!!! Thats awesome!!! Dumb Anna never had a chance! :irked: How could she say he never had long term relationships? What a witch! All of Lukes relationships were long term. There was Nicole who he married, Lorelai who he got engaged to and Anna who he had a darn kid with for peet sacks!!!

I'm really glad Lucy and Rory are talking again, I actually really like Lucy, she made a weird first impression on me when she was first introduced to the show but she is actually really cool. I was really sad to hear her and Marty broke up though :(

Sookie pregnant? hehe saw that coming from the start of the episode partly because I know the actress was pregnant, I thought they would just send Sookie off on vacation though or something or put really big boxes infront of her that didn't make any sence  Oh well, thats ok, I think its good they are having another kid...I can't believe Jackson didn't go get fixed though lol

And last but not least the last scene...that was....wow and...wow  I can't believe it, was Richard having a heart attack? Whatever it was it....sucked. Poor Richard and poor Rory :( That is the second time in the show that Rory has had to run to the hospital with Richard. She handled herself really well from what we saw. Great way to end it, I can't wait for next week! I'm really glad her and Richard got to have that moment in his office though before that happened, that was such a sweet scene!!

MickeyJr3000 01-30-2007 09:31 PM

PARIS!!!!!!!

We miss you SOOO MUCH.

RICHARD/RORY SCENES!!!!! AT YALE!!!!!

We missed you SOOO MUCH!!

I'm glad that the heart attack was shown according to its appropriate symptoms...tis' always good to be precise when putting medical issues in a show. Holding your left shoulder IS part of it. Sad for Richard...I hope he's going to be okay.

Not sure about the letter...kind of upset that we didn't see Anna's face. I'm not sure about the "I'm not in love with him/Luke" exclamation. The letter was pretty good though but for someone who wanted to write something like a Martin Luther King speech, she didn't quite live up to it IMO.

I clapped for Christopher when he said "I'm not your rebound". I don't know why. I know he got himself into this mess but when he said it with such self-conviction, the tables were turned and Lorelai look screwed. Again...I don't know why they made me CHEER for him. I didn't expect a Luke/Lorelai scene, and I didn't expect Richard's heartattack to be the last moment of the episode. What a sad cliffhanger.

Yay Paris!! Cannot be said enough.

ETA: Sookie/Jackson: They played it out quite well, I think...the Jackson/Lorelai scene was quite funny because it sounded like Jackson didn't think (in the first place) that he should tell Sookie that he didnt' get the vascectomy, as though it wasn't something he needed to tell her. Heh. Making him a little slow worked in the story's favour. And that Sookie went off the pill a month ago without telling him. I was seriously expecting Sookie to go all "He kept a secret from me!! What does that mean??" like Lorelai did last year in 6.12...I really was expecting that sort of conflict, as I was quite pissy when I heard the spoiler. And the L/S talk centered around getting comfortable with the idea of being pregnant again, rather than "He lied", which reduced the DRAMA and used Sookie and Jackson in the way they are usually used--comedic relief. The kids in this show seem to age too quickly in between guest starring. Last season, Davey couldn't speak, couldn't understand a command, and now he's like, four, communicative, imaginative...oy. The LG and Davey-Kid scene was cute though.

Yea that was very well done, I'm glad they were smart enough to show the symptoms cause that was the only way I knew it was a heartattack (him holding his shoulder)

I was smiling in my head when he said that thinking "hehe me and Neshbes were right, even Chris himself agrees with us"

The way they ending with Rory jumping up was a really great way to end it, awesome but sad cliffhanger :( I had no idea that was going to happen.

I really liked this episode all the scenes were really well acted.
I loved seeing Paris she was so sweet to say those nice things about Rory you can tell Paris really loves her.

The Richard and Rory scenes were amazing seeing them in a scene by themselves together was great too see. I agree they did the heartattack scene really well it was really believable,I actually thought he looked a little out of breath the whole time he was talking to Rory and then alot when he was teaching.
I can't wait to see how this all plays out and brings everyone closer together, maybe this will make Emily see how precious life is and finally let go of her anger towards Lorelai.

Yeah Luke won as he should have and I loved that he stood up for himself even though the judge didn't like it. Luke had become a great father to April, and Anna should have never stopped him from seeing her. April really loves Luke and wants to see him as much as possible.

I have to say SEE YA CHRIS!!! I am so happy he finally said what we all were thinking that he is the second choice. Lorelai is so in love with Luke even though she doesn't want to admit it to herself. Chris can go and Luke and swoop in like a knight in shining armor!!!

Okay episode. Actually liked the Rory side more than the Lorelai side for a change.

1) Was cute seeing Paris going to bat for Rory with Lucy. And I like that Rory for once showed some appreciation which is something Rory hasn't always shown in the past.

2) Rory hates Dan Abrams? I would've pegged Rory for an MSNBC fan. Of course Dan's legal show was just sensationalist garbage. But hey, he runs the network of Keith Olbermann. Or maybe because of Rory's affinity for Christiane Amanpour she's by extension a partisan Anderson Cooper fan. :)

3) I liked the Rory / Richard scene. Taking a class with her grandfather? Dunno. Taking a class taught by a family member has always seemed like a bad idea. Though her grandfather does seem fond of her enough that it would be an easy A.

4) Assuming Jackson isn't nuetered Sookie might want to get acccess to a computer and google "birth control."

5) Guess Edward Hermann has to go so they can afford to give Alexis and Lauren their pay raises. Just kidding. ;)

I assume Richard is fine and from the previews an excuse to get Lorelai and Luke to interact. Course if this really is the last season isn't their some rule that a character has to be killed off in every drama's last season?

6) Glad Luke got some form of custody. Not that I ever expected him not to. Course the next two questions are will Anna honor the verdict or give him the runaround. Especially once she has April in a different legal jurisdiction. And now that Luke has some form of custody will she seek child support. The type that will break his back and leave him barely any money to do anything with April the few times he does get to see her.

7) And the letter. Same as I wrote before. It was very appropriate for Lorelai to write the letter for Luke. Provided she discusses it with her husband who has a very bad history with Luke. How is he supposed to react? Particularly when the first he ever heard of the trial may very well be Lorelai's stuttering response to him.

His anxieties and insecurities are justified. And he's entitled to rant for a bit and have a little alone time. Lorelai is treating him how she treated Luke before. Luke didn't like Lorelai going behind his back with Chris no matter how justified. And Chris likewise.

Unless Lorelai learns to be a bit more honest with her partner it doesn't matter who she is with. Either of them will (and have) end up hurt.

8) On the other hand Chris' response to the coffee at the start of the episode was lame.

9) As for the text of the letter. Seems very effective towards the goal of showing Luke would make a good father. Again if Lorelai had discussed this with Chris beforehand she could've explained to him that she'd write a letter that would paint him in as positive a light as possible for the court. And that it's goal is to be as effective as possible. Not to necessarily be as "accurate" as possible (even if clearly in our eyes it was) but rather to in a sense deify him.

Ok I haven't seen this sicne early season 7. I gave up for a bit with Chris and Lorelai reunited. Because I did not want to see them on my TV screen every week. However tonight I tuned in after seeing last weeks preview. That was... Amazing. Tonight was... Amazing. The letter is what I really loved. It was uber sweet and if it gets Chris out of the picture I am all up for it. Once more he leaves when things don't go right. I knew people called him two minute man for a reason.

Aw. The Rory/Paris/Lucy scene was nice. I liked Paris saying Rory is the best friend anyone could have and what not.

this episode was amazing! at the end i was :yay:. i loved the how they read the letter. it showed that loralei really loves Luke, and finally wakes up and realizes it. it was so good that he won cousity of April.

Jackson and sookie where  and so was Paris. i would have been more shocked at the end if i was spoilerfree, but i'm not ;)

wbjunkie 01-31-2007 07:47 AM

i really liked this eppy too. the letter that Lorelai wrote for Luke was just soo touching. i really couldn't believe Chris overreacted so bad. she's trying to help Luke have a relationship with his kid for goodness sakes. he acts like just because she and Luke broke up that she's not supposed to care about him. this is a man who's been in her life for quite a long time and was always there for her daughter. if Chris is upset about Rory and Luke'srelationship he only has himself to blame for not being there!

i loved the way Paris stood up to Lucy. i get that it was weird but i think she was overreacting... i mean if someone acted like they didn't know you, you might just be caught a little off guard. i am glad that Lucy forgiven her though.

it was really great Luke got joint custody... Anna was being a witch. she kept trying to use it against him that he hadn't been in April's life very long but that was her fault, not his. i'm so glad she got put in her place. :)
