The WB Tour: Share your experience!
I don't think there's a thread for this. Feel free to close it if there is!
I'm going on the tour in mid-December, and I just wanted to hear about other people's experiences. I know quite a few people who post here have taken it, and maybe some lurkers too. :) |
I've never been on the tour but I just wanted to say that I love this thread idea Alexis, thanks for starting it! I love reading about people's experiences and seeing pictures from the tour.

I've posted this elsewhere, but I'll repost here :D
On Monday (Nov 8, 2004) I went on the WB Studio Tour :) I got to see the Dragonfly Inn, the outside of Rory and Lorelai's House, and Rory herself.. Alexis Bledel! Here are pictures I was able to take :D The Promo Pic for Gilmore Girls from outside the WB Studio http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_1.jpg Lorelai's Jeep, and Rory's Car http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_2.jpg Lorelai and Rory's House http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_5.jpg Babette's House http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...re_Girls_6.jpg I didn't get to see "Stars Hollow" because they were filming there that day. But seeing the Dragonfly was REALLY cool!! (and on the soundstage, Rory and Lorelai's house is right behind the "fake" trees you can see from the window of the Dragonfly's recepetion area and kitchen. We walked all thru the Dragonfly .. in the front room, the dining room, the kitchen, a new Parlor area that has not been shown yet, and the reception. The stairs in the dragonfly go up to nowhere.. although they did build stairs that go down on the other side (because when the dragonfly first opened a lot of people were going upstairs, so they needed a way to get back down again without coming down the same way) I caught a glimpse of the Stars Hollow video store too :D They only let you take pictures on the backlot, which is why I only have pictures of the actual house :D The Dragonfly is very small .. it was weird, cuz it looks bigger on screen. (they always make sets smaller, because the camera makes things look bigger). I highly reccommend the tour to anyone going to L.A! :D The non-GG related stuff on the tour .. is a short movie about Warner Bros Studio, a trip to the WB Store (no GG stuff there :( ), the WB Museum.. which was just Harry Potter stuff, we saw the Props Dept, Friends Central Perk (they have it stored in the Props Dept.. you can take pictures of it!) Peeked into some studios that had there doors open, saw them filming a scene for ER, and the tour of the backlot .. not including Stars Hollow because they were filming there that day. |
Wow! Kick ass pics Meekomist! That is one big mother of a billboard! Your pictures are great...even though I'm refusing to believe there are two Lorelai jeeps. Hopefully I'll be able to add some shots of Stars Hollow when I go, they shouldn't be filming when I'm there. Thanks for posting! Confession: I started the thread because of your post anyway. LOL!

Since there are 2 Jeeps, do you think they will sell one to me when I go there since that is currently what I'm in the market for? I mean it would make it so much easier instead of having to car shop, and I'd have one mega fan appreciation piece. Haha. That'd be cool "So where'd you get your Jeep?" "The WB.." "Where?" "Gilmore Girls..the show." "Uh?" I'm not a stalker I swear..just a really big fan."

I just noticed that one jeep has a California lisence plate and the other one has a Connecticut one. Maybe the Cali one is a worker's jeep.

Great idea for a thread. I hope to get out there before the show ends.

I went on the all day tour last spring. You really get to see a lot....and they make appointments for you to talk with lots of people. We got to talk to the head of the wardrobe department....she's been there forever. She goes on location for the movies.
The guy in the dubbing department was really interesting. He let us be on a track for a group scene. Funny part of that day was getting to see them dub a West Wing. I know one of the writers and she had written that one!! |
I did the tour back in August 2001 :)
So got to see at the time the building of the Gilmore Mansion, which had been given its very own soundstage <g> It was looking damn fine that's for sure :) The only famous people I saw was John Wells (and it might have been Christopher Misiano - still not 100% on that) going on their golf buggy to the West Wing set :) Cheryl what episode of The West Wing was it? |
Great thread idea, Xel!
Wow, Meekomist, those pictures rock! Heh, two jeeps? Glad you had a good time. Cool beans that you saw Alexis! Does anyone know how I would go about going to the set? My friend and I want to visit it during the spring, but, we want to go when they're filming, cause we want to meet the cast. Anyone know how I would go about doing this? Thanks in advance! |
Wow, thanks for posting those pics. They're awesome!

What is the policy for days they are filming in "Stars Hollow"? Do they close the entire Stars Hollow backlot on those days, or only during actual set-up and filming time? Seems like they would be shooting in Stars Hollow quite a bit, so the tour leaves out that part that often? Do the same rules apply to the interior or sound stages, in terms of closing the set when filming for that day? |
I visited on July 24, 2002, the day filming started for season 3. I got to walk around Stars Hollow. Kitty hosted my pics awhile back, don't remember if they're still there. I also saw Emily & Richard's mansion but couldn't take any pics in there. You can only take outdoor pics and believe me, I took about two dozen. But I also got to look in Doose's Market and snapped a photo of that w/o flash since some guy said it was ok. Very small.

They were also filming ER in the backlot, which is another reason we didn't get to see a lot back there. At the beginning of the tour the tour guide said some people like to come when nothing is being filmed so they can see lots of sets, others like to come when everything is filming because there is a chance to see stars.
We were there when everything was filming. Most of the Stage Doors were closed, which indicated filming, although a few were open so we could peak inside as we drove by on the Tram. Gilmore Girls is filmed on multiple sound stages, so that's probably why there is a good chance you would tour one of their sets .. I was just lucky enough that for me it was the Dragonfly Inn. Plus since they were filming in Stars Hollow they were not filminig at Rory and Lorelai's house so I got to see that too. As for Alexis .. as were driving up we spotted her walking into her trailer, then she came right back out, I recognized her right away. The tour guide sped up so that we went by just as she was going to walk across the street, she didn't look up at us though, she just walked right on by. She was wearing a purple top, grey skirt, and on her feet, bright blue shoes (they were not part of the outfit) .. she had her hair back in a bun. The thing that most stands out for me from seeing her... is how blue her eyes are .. they just pop out. |
Thanks for the details, Meekomist!
They all must be so used to it. And considering she doesn't really like being recognized, an entire tram full of people probably would have been too many eyes on her. :) |
