Agreed. Despite all of their many complications I loved to see their relationship grow over the course of the show.

I think it was at an interesting spot in AYITL. There were still problems there, as there always will be, but it was stronger than it had been years before.

It was. I really enjoyed Emily's storyline in AYITL and I think that grieving journey she was on from the loss of Richard, helped with her relationship with Lorelai.

I think sharing in their loss of Richard will definitely bring them closer. It won't solve all of their issues, those will always be there, but I think they understand each other a bit more now.
