Yeah I don't agree with his take on that moment at all. To me that is just all part of Luke and Lorelai's banter. They tease each other and Luke gives back just as good. Like when he responds with asking her to marry him and saying he was just looking for something to shut her up. It's one of their ways they flirt with each other, but not knowing they're flirting.

That’s how I’ve always taken that scene/quote but he did open my eyes a bit to a different way to interpret her behavior.

Yeah, I guess his take did make me see how it could be taken differently, but I just don't like the thought of Lorelai looking down on Luke. She doesn't do that, at all, that isn't in her character.

There may be a slight subconscious undercurrent of those feelings but I don’t see that as having and showing contempt for Luke.

Luke was it for her. It's pretty powerful that he is the only person she's ever been in love with. She probably thought she loved Chris at one point, but it took to being with Luke to have her realise that that wasn't love, but what she had for Luke, was. Then it was further confirmed once she actually entered into a relationship with Chris and married him, that she still never and never could love him... but she would always love Luke.
