Now I must agree with you Dairfan21: one of the reasons for choosing Yale was Jess. She also wanted to be close to Lorelai and Lane and SH in general.
But imo Emily and Richard also influenced Rory's decision a little.

I think Richard presented Yale to Rory as a very real alternative and ended up appealing more to her for all the reasons mentioned.

As for Rory being drawn to her grandparents world, I have been thinking about that, sadly, and I feel that it's more her not wanting to hurt their feelings as opposed to her wanting to be a part of it. She knows how much Emily wants both girls in her life, her mother is reluctant, so she feels she should please Emily by taking interest. The parties Emily threw for Rory, the deb ball, the DAR parties, I felt Rory was gong along to please her grandmother, not because she wanted to be a part of that world.

Unlike Lorelai Rory accepted her grandparents for who they were. But I think there was more than just love, there was also admiration (her high school graduation speech - Rory calls them "my rock").
