I love that they sort of sync up with each other. I like the symbolisim of the first episode of season 3, involves Lorelai dreaming about Luke and the last episode of season 3 involves Luke dreaming about Lorelai.

It's a great way to bookend the season.

stellar_dust 05-19-2022 02:09 PM

It really is. I remember when I first watched the finale of season 3, I didn't understand that Luke had a dream, I thought that scene had actually happened. So when season 4 premiered and Luke told Lorelai he proposed then got married, I was so mad because Lorelai had told him not to get engaged! Then of course when I rewatched I realized Luke was dreaming. But I wish he had listened to dream Lorelai lol.

The way the scene is done, it could easily be missed that it was a dream. But yes, he should have listened to dream!Lorelai.

I don't know what Luke was thinking on that cruise. What is it with Luke and Lorelai and losing their minds while out of the country and marrying people they don't love? This is why they need each other.

onebreath 05-20-2022 07:18 AM

Right. The only eloped wedding that should have happened was them marrying each other.

stellar_dust 05-20-2022 12:06 PM

It is sort of funny that in they end, they did technically elope together, even if it was just the night before and where the actual wedding was taking place.

I never realized until now that they both did that!

Aw those looks they give each other. I like to imagine they see that as a little pre-date date. Lorelai does say in AYITL that basket bidding was part of their early romance. :)

Yes, it is crazy that they both ended up doing the same thing by eloping with other people. Both of those marriages were never meant to be, they were only supposed to marry each other.

onebreath 05-21-2022 06:19 AM

Totally it was a date, even if it technically wasn't. I love that Lorelai said that. She looks back on that and recognises that they clearly had feelings for each other, years before they actually got together. :sigh:
