Favorite Seasons and Episodes Discussion Thread #1

Hi all  I know we are all (im)patiently waiting for November 25th and the release of the 4 movies/episodes, so I thought I would make a thread where we could rank the seasons and make top 10 lists for our favorite episodes. This would be a fun way to celebrate our love for the show and also pump us up for the revival!

Not only would I love to see your lists and rankings, but I'd love to see why certain seasons/episodes are your favorites. So please feel free to explain! Looking forward to your lists :yay:

Thanks for the thread, Courtney. Great idea.

It's going to take me a little to put my list(s) together but i'm excited.

Thank you for starting this thread! Like Melissa, it's gonna take me a bit to prepare my list. I'm also crap at remembering specific episode titles so I'll try my best.

When I have more time I'll post an episode list. Untill then the order of my favorite seasons:

1. Season 3
2. Season 5
3. Season 2
4. Season 1
5. Season 4
6. Season 7
7. Season 6

That said, even my least favorite season is a favorite season of mine. The least favorite season is still better than a lot of other tv shows in general, lol.

 I totally agree with you on this statement. I just love the entire show, beginning to end, it'll always remain in my top 3 favorite shows of all time. :sigh:

My season ranking:

1) Season 1
2) Season 5
3) Season 2
4) Season 6
5) Season 4
6) Season 3
7) Season 7

1) Season 1
2) Season 5
3) Season 4
4) Season 6
5) Season 3
6) Season 2
7) Season 7

Honestly the fact that I'm a huge L/L shipper played a huge part in this list.

That's how I feel too  This show means so, so much to me and it will never be out of my top three shows. Even with episodes that frustrate me, I still enjoy them. I could watch any episode of Gilmore Girls at any time.

I'm curious about the rankings of your seasons! There's a lot of variation. I have a really hard time picking my favorite seasons -- they've changed a lot over the years.

1) Season 5
2) Season 4
3) Season 3
4) Season 1
5) Season 2
6) Season 6
7) Season 7

In all honesty, the first 5 feel pretty equal to me. Season 3 used to be my absolute favorite, but in recent rewatches I've grown to love 4 and 5 so much. Maybe because of LL? Also, the ending of Season 3 infuriates me ...but there are so many great episodes throughout. And Season 1 is so classic and it builds the world so wonderfully. And for some reason, Season 2 has always been ranked kind of low for me, but it contains so many of my favorite episodes and of course RJ's buildup. So who knows, it could be switched around at any time

I went with season 1 as my favourite because it's what really made me fall in the love with the show (and the characters). If I didn't like it I never would've made it past to see the rest of the series. I mean I didn't care for Dean or Max but I think the storylines were important and needed to be told. But specifically, it was the strength of the pilot episode that pulled me in. When Lorelai and Rory start fighting about Chilton, we are just learning about them, this is the first time we're seeing them and we know something is wrong the moment they start to fight. We know right from the start that these two fighting is not a usual thing, and not a good thing, and you feel that need for them to make up instantly. The writing and acting is so good that within 10 minutes we already feel like we understand so much of their relationship and can sense when there is a disturbance in the force and it is amazing. That, is a beautiful thing in my opinion.

Season 4 has my favourite episodes in it and the true beginning for Luke and Lorelai will has me swoon every time. It still has the same effect on me as it did the first time I watched it. Their dance at Liz/TJ's wedding, their first kiss at the Dragonfly. Those episodes alone bring it all the way to the top of my list.

Season 5 is weighed really high of for the reason of L/L again. And surprisingly, their breakup post WBB is actually some of my favourite episodes (although I could do without Fiddler on the Roof).

Season 6 and I had a love-hate relationship. I hated that Lorelai and Rory weren't talking and that they threw in the unnecessary April storyline that I felt took so much away from Luke's father-figure-like person from Rory, and that L/L started going south and Lorelai's heartbreaking ultimatum, and the breakup. But at the same time, the reunion and the moments that were good between L/L I absolutely adored.

Season 7 will always be my least favourite because I don't think the new writers understood the characters. I'm sure there's still a debate somewhere on who was the most OOC. And as much as the season basically wanted to make me turn on my favourite character (Lorelai) with the whole C/L mess, I think that was the only thing that was no longer out of character. At that point she thinks she has no chance with Luke anymore and her last chance at being happy would be going to Christopher. There is one other time that this happens in the series, when Lorelai and Luke are fighting after Rory and Jess get into that car crash, she calls Christopher and he comes running. But, she never called him for other big things that happened like Rory dropping out of Yale or getting arrested because she always had Luke to go to in those circumstances. So point being, as much as I disapproved of the entire relationship it was really in character except for Lorelai basically avoided the town as much as possible.

favorite seasons, always difficult and changing but-
3,4
1,5
2
6,7

the tied ones i just cannot decide between. i feel like seasons 3 and 4 were just so strong, each for their own, different reasons.

1 and 5 had great moments but at first the show was still finding itself, and the last bit of 5 started to have a little too much drama for me.

2 i really do like, but for some reason, no matter how many times i watch the series the episodes in season 2 seem to be a little more...forgettable i guess? although ironically it was the middle of season two that i started watching the series and got drawn in hah.

seasons 6 and 7...i am actually re-watching now for the first time since they originally aired(after re watching the rest of the show countless times). the show really lost some charm and got too dramatic for my taste at the time. i truly believe ASP, even if sub-consciously, set out to ruin the show in season 6, i have specific reasons behind this if anyone wants to get into it. season seven i havent gotten to watch again yet, but remember it being just a different universe.

episodes that come to mind, although there are many more and in no real order-

they shoot gilmores

raincoats and recipes

pilot

that damn donna reed

dear emily and richard

first day at yale

incredible sinking lorelais

last week fights

written in the stars

say something

I still canĀ“t watch the eps from 6.10-7.10. Just makes me :puke:

As a huge L/L shipper my favorite seasons are:

1.) Season 4
2.) Season 5
3.) Season 2
4.) Season 1
5.) Season 3
6.) Season 6
7.) Season 7

And who knows....maybe Season 8 will be my favorite come November... ;)

I know  It's so nice to think about. Like we'll essentially have a 9 episode season (if 90 minutes x 4 = 360, divided by 40 (our usual episode length)..we'll have 9 episodes).

Makes me think back to when we were actually supposed to get a 13 episode season 8 to finish the series and then they were all like, "nah, we'll just end it here."

I remember those rumors :bawl: But honestly, I'm happy everything worked out the way it did. This feels so right and we've now had over a year of pure joy and anticipation(due to years of wanting).

 Me, too. I had thrown the towel in on getting anymore episodes, so I resigned myself to that ending. I'm ecstatic about ending the series (or maybe not? still think this will be the final end) on ASP's terms. It's only right, even if I don't care for her ending, it was HER show & should've ended the way she wanted.

I love the first season, it'll always be my favorite because it introduced that world SO well and I fell in love with those characters so hard. :sigh:
