Episode 7.07 - "French Twist" - Discussion Thread
From TV Guide:
Lorelai and Christopher take his daughter to Paris, where they spend their time fighting jet lag and hunger, but also succumb to the romance of the city; Zack and Lane receive surprising news regarding their impending parenthood and Lane finally tells Mrs. Kim she's pregnant. Rory retires as Daily News editor and realizes she doesn't know what she wants to do after Yale; she later calls her new friends to cheer her up and discovers that Lucy's boyfriend is her old friend Marty (Wayne Wilcox). |
Wow, no comments?
1. Hmm. Interesting that Chris thinks Rory will be excited about he and Lorelai spontaneously getting married. I'm kind of surprised Lorelai would let herself believe that Rory would be okay with it too, given her reaction to finding out about her engagement to Luke last season. 2. The look on Lorelai's face at the end of the episode was very telling. She's obviously not completely happy. It seems like she's now just settling. 3. Gigi has really improved. She was actually sort of cute and not at all obnoxious. 4. It's good to see Marty back. I still have a hard time imagining him with Lucy, but hey... good for him. I guess it would be awkward to explain to Lucy and Olivia that they used to be friends but stopped hanging out once he told her he liked her. 5. Love Paris. Love Mrs. Kim. Love Brian. 6. Zach's bit about the Siamese twins -- hee. I really hope the kids' intelligence and logic comes more from Lane than from him. 7. I really like that Rory has some new friends. Lane's obviously sort of busy. Paris is great but... intense. It's nice that Rory has some new friends she can talk to and actually hang out with. |
Well I rarely post but tonight I just felt like getting my frustrations out so here it goes:
Rant... I have no words for Gilmore Girls tonight. Let's just say this is by FAR the worst episode ever written and totally destroyed the last 6 years and what Lorelai used to be about. Sorry I saw it as a big **** you to the majority of the audience and it truly sickens me. And that's coming from someone who wasn't entirely pissed at the concept of CL getting married if it was handled properly, but man DR just took that and decided to triple the horror by a thousand for no good reason! The scene at the restaurant was the most horrifying and ridiculous thing I've ever seen on TV. Does DR not give a **** about the fans and is willing to see the show tank when he finally manages to make everyone so sick to their stomach to even tolerate watching this bull**** anymore. It takes alot because normally I'll defend the show to the death, I even stuck up for Partings. Sadly tonight I just can't. It was just that horrifying. Looking at the one bright spot in this pile of garbage that was once a great show, at least we know it can't get worse than this crap. And that I see this as the climax of positive CL, and from now on it can only get better for LL fans IMO. I liked how Lorelai's facial expression obviously wasn't all about joy in the final scene, it gives me a little hope for LL in the end. I also liked how the ceremony wasn't shown so at least we know it wasn't important enough to show. I also liked the return of Marty and that Paris was once again the only reason to even tune in at all. The rest I just can't discuss. |
I didn't think it was that bad. What was so terrible about the restaurant scene in particular and about the overall episode, in your opinion?
|
Well, if DR has done his homework, he knows that this marriage isnĀ“t legal....but Lorelai said ILY ??? Right, so, Luke was not the only man she ever loved ???
GG has so lost it, and a big fat :puke: for that ep..... |

The ending clearly showed Lorelai not happy which indicates she's settling. That's the only part of any Lorelai scene I liked. So if that's the case then why all the other stuff? Oh the 25 years of dating comment by Chris sucked and she basically agreed. Okay really? She never dated Luke. She was never engaged to Luke. She never loved Luke. What the hell is going on here? It was like Luke and LL were entirely erased in one freaken disaster of an episode and along with that, CL were pimped as some great love story that was just simmering and waiting for the right time to finally materialize and truly transpire. But forget how every other episode before this pointed to CL not being meant to be and hell Lorelai constantly showing signs that she never wanted to be with Chris. But according to this episode, she's always wanted Chris. ;) Sure. Quote:

Everything else sucked plain and simple. |

And I'm sorry but I always thought ASP was showing the immature side of CL when they were in high school dreaming of Paris, but all of a sudden Chris acts like it's the greatest romantic gesture in the whole wide world. I'm also pissed off at how Lorelai has been laughing off Chris not being around while Rory was growing up lately. Like the last 22 years were just a breeze for her and not even worth thinking about. But heck they were dating all these years I guess so he's forgiven. ;) I never saw his absence as easy to forgive or laughable.  Quote:

The Lane and Zach and Mrs. Kim stuff was okay as well but I truly was too distracted to appreciate anything else. The closest I got was Paris and Marty. I guess that's why I didn't like the episode Roxy. I admit my LL bias clouded me from ever accepting the episode. I just found it disregarding the history of the show. :( |
This was the first episode that i refused to watch. Ever. I just clicked it back and forth occasionally. This whole Chris thing is insane. But it's not even that... it's everything. Idk. I just can't sit though a whole episode anymore.
But from what i saw... Rory is boring and annoying and her friends are even more annoying. And what'd she do to her hair? Lorelai won't stop talking! She always talked alot but this season it's just ridiculous. I'm surprised Chris hasn't run for the hills. And once again the best storyline and the most entertaining part of the episode was... Lane and Zach. ^^ When such small characters are the only part of the episode that was the least bit interesting... you know somethings wrong. |
All I saw was the end. All I needed to see was the end.
Her face fell. The mask dropped when she was alone. Was that the face of someone who was thrilled to be married? I think not. :yay: You cannot explain that away. You just can't. |
Only good parts about this episode were Paris, Marty, Lane and Zach. It's disappointing that we like the minor character more than the two major characters. Stop ruining our Gilmore Girls and give them back their personalities!
|
I only tuned in tonight because of Marty's return and all i'm going to say is that, that scene did not dissapoint.
|
I've been sick most of the day, and let's just say I was hovering over the toilet during a lot of the C/L scenes and while I was listening to the show in the background, it sounded like I was having a more pleasant experience than if I had been watching that (to use an appropriate term) COMPLETE AND UTTER CRAP.
Lane and Zach were enjoyable. For once I didn't want to smack Zach, and as always I love Mama Kim. Marty's got the right idea. Was Luke in this episode? They may as well have had Chris buy Luke's. REALLY stick it to him, DR. And a fist fight? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? |
Wow um I don't really know what to say. I am in complete shock from the entire episode. I liked the episode, I really did. Chris was funny at times, Lorelai was darn down adorable but I wouldn't say I loved the episode! All the ILY's and the ending where all of a sudden they are married? All I can say is I'm happy they didn't show there wedding! I'm still digesting all of this info and shock. :embarrassment:
The Marty part had my mouth down to the floor :jaw_drop: Like OMG that was soooooo unexpected. I'm glad he found someone though, he looks happy but wow, hes changed. Marty was the last person I ever saw Lucy with..no literally, I didn't know he was her boyfriend until they walked into the apartment and Lucy said "hey boyfriend" right before they showed him then I was like "you've got to be kidding, it can't sreiously be..." and then there he was:lol: Aww I feel bad for Marty, you can tell he's hurt by the way he acted to Rory but I like that Rory was still trying to be friends with him:blush: That was great that she was still happy to see him. He better be in more episodes!:irked: Oh God it was nice seeing Marty, only been waiting 2 years!!!! Aww the Lane and Zach stuff was soo cute, I can't believe they are having twins...thats just...wow! So cute how Zach was all ok with that, him thinking it was siamies(sp?) twins was hilarious! Mrs Kim took it just how I thought she would...sweet and supportive. The moving in thing was a complete shocker though haha Brian at her place? Who would have though:lmao: I actually really liked Rorys friends this episode, they rubbed me the wrong way when they first appeared but now? They seem like they're exactly what Rory needs right now, some ditzy friends to show her a fun time before year end. The only friends Rory has ever had are mature life long friends that look out for her more then have fun with her, I'm not saying thats a bad thing, thats actually a really good thing but now Rory really needs some imature friends to help her stay young now that she is maturing more, Rorys old enough to know right from wrong so I doubt they'll get her into trouble, for all we know she may actually help them. Rory really needed these girls this episode IMO, I liked that they showed another side of themselves this episode. Ok on to the dark stuff...Lorelai and Chris. I think we almost had old Lorelai back this episode, she actually thought about Rory before jumping to the alter with Chris, she also turned him down but Chris just had to push her:mad: Lorelai isn't good under pressure! Chris and Lorelai were such 16 year olds this episode, they were funny at times and Lorelai was definately cute and hilarious but then they had to start remembering the "good" times and saying how much they love eachother:irked: So much for Lorelai only loving Luke! Chris ticked me off soo bad while he was proposing (and not just because he was proposing) He actually thought that Rory would be THRILLED?!?!?!! Oh ya sure cause she has always dreamed about her parents marrying eachother in Paris without her:rolleyes: I can't believe Lorelai actually went through with it. Does she not remember how Rory reacted after she found out she was engaged? GRR I'm so ticked off, why did they have to get married?!?! It's not even so much the fact that they got married, its more the fact that that was the first time she got married. In Paris without her daughter, family or friends to a guy she doesn't even really love! The first time was suppost to be special.:embarrassment: |
I love Chris/Lor so I will say I am very happy. I loved the resturant scene! Someone said they were shocked that Lor said ILY to Chris. Why? She loved him before she even loved Luke so it makes sense she still does. But anyone can see that Lorelai has unresolved feelings for Luke and this will end badly. Excited for Chris/Luke's fight next week!
I love Marty and am glad to see him again! I wonder if now that Logan is gone he will be thrown back into the mix for Rory. I always thought they were cute even though I am a Rory/Logan fan. |

I didn't mind Rory - though she could find less annoying friends! Lorelai had her moments but I just can't believe she married him. And especially w/o Rory there?!!!!!!   SO not like her. |
