5.08 The Party's Over Episode Discussion

I didn't see a thread started yet. If I was just blind go ahead and close this one :)

Richard and Emily reunite in order to find a suitable young man for Rory after learning of her relationship with Dean; Luke's culinary oeuvre intrigues Lorelai, but their dinner is ruined by his new neighbors---T.J. and Liz (Michael DeLuise, Kathleen Wilhoite). Also, Zack is read the riot act by Mrs. Kim, whose intimidation of Kyon also irks Lane.

Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote the episode directed by Eric Laneuville

East coasters get to see it in 15 minutes.

So I just finished watching the episode.

Favorite quote of the show:

At things like this you must start a sub-party. Finn!

I love Rory/Logan. They are so cute. :sigh:

germ881 11-10-2004 12:50 AM

Oh my! I LOVED everything Luke/Lorelai and Rory/Logan in this episode. The looks, the LL kiss, conversations, etc. Great stuff tonight. As far as the promo goes...bring it Christopher. I'm ready.

ETA: Paris was so funny in this eppy and Mama Kim had me rollin with her facial expressions during her rant.

Ok, I think it's time for a recap... but I don't feel like it... instead I'll just comment along the way :D

First - LOVED R/L... Dean and Rory are finally done!!! :woot: Logan was there to watch the breakup... first off, he was totally dumbfounded when he found our Rory had a b/f... i think it came close to disappointment. Secondly, there was a total moment b/t him and Rory post-breakup :thud:

Second - Lane's mom is nuts... her rant to Zach was hysterical, and his look after...

Third - Lorelai and Luke were cute... I still don't see the whole point of his sis and her hubby being there, and them interrupting their date... hmmm.

Lastly - Emily was actually funny this episode... but they really need to back off Rory, and Lorelai should've pushed them harder. Oh yeah, and I love that Logan's parents are close friends of Rory's grandparents... nice.

Oh, anyone have any thoughts on what that limo bit was about?

I really liked this episode! Luke cooked! AWWWW! How cute! But the TJ/Liz thing was yucky! I'm glad that Dean and Rory are done! But over all it was a good episode! Next week's looks really awesome!

Talona42 11-10-2004 01:07 AM

Dean is a Donkey's rear!

Not only did he break up with her, but he humilated her doing it.

Logan has class, he handled Rory well after her humilation.

Think Logan wanted Rory to pick him? I do.

Great ep! Favorite things:

1) Images of Luke is a Montie Hat
2) The way Lor touches the back of Luke's head when he is cooking.
3) R/L look after he consoled her.
4) Mrs. Kim

BUT THE BEST THING:

Bye bye Deano!

Will write more later, must watch again and again and again..

I enjoyed this episode although I missed the middle part when my brother called so I have no idea why TJ was there, but it seemed rather pointless to me.

I liked Rory and Logan at the party. He seemed disappointed to find out she had a boyfriend and I like how they all banded around her when Dean drove off and that they wanted to make her feel better. I like to think that, if nothing else, she's making some good friends that she'll be able to count on.

I thought it was very telling of how she pulled up to her house in the limo and sort of stumbled to the door. She didn't choose Dean as her mother assumed she would, and she obviously didn't hate the party as Lorelai earlier believed. I wonder if Lorelai thought that Rory was cheating on Dean when she saw her pull up in the limo with the guys. She had a look of dissapointment on her face. Maybe that was becasue Rory was drunk or that she seemed to slide into the role Emily had set for her so easily, especially after Lorelai told Emily that Rory wouldn't do that. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I wish they'd pick an age for Rory. Is she 19 or 20?

And I loved Lorelai pinching her in the beginning. It made me laugh.

nancyvi 11-10-2004 01:19 AM

you know what? that limo was a little about both of them...two worlds...Lorelai never wanted that world, and now Rory is fitting in quite well in that world...and her grandparents know it and are like vultures circling for the kill. I think there will be a big blow up between Lorelai and Rory....neither let's the other one think for themselves. Lorelai tries to shield Rory from her grandparents and their world...but Rory CONSISTENTLY turns down her help with them. Rory got involved with the Chris thing, and now will make more of it next ep....she doesn't trust her Mom to make good decisions, and you know that Lorelai feels Rory is sweet and naive and unable to handle the 'games' of that elite little upper class society Richard and Emily belong to.....and Rory will be disagreeing vehemently with that I bet! She wants in that world, and she is loving her taste of it and the attention it brings so far. Richard and Emily's little rant at Lorelai was very telling.

I also feel everything will be fine for Luke and Lorelai. Lorelai is totally crazy for Luke and will be shocked with Rory's reaction to Christopher. But Lorelai showed tonight how much she adores Luke. I think at some point though this show has GOT to have Lorelai defended to her parents by Luke or Rory. Someone has to open their eyes to how they have treated her and who she has become....they were about as mean as I have ever seen them tonight with their daughter.

I think this is about the two GG's growing up, moving on, and getting their own lives, independant ones, with their own friends and social circle, and how they resolve those worlds to still be the GG's we all know and love.

*sigh* This kills me. Every year, there's at least one episode of Rory being conned into something by Richard and Emily. Every time, Lorelai says, "Hey, kid, I'll get you out of it." Every time, Rory says, "No, thanks. I don't mind." And every time Rory has a good time, Lorelai gets that weird look again.

Hey, Lor! Rory isn't you!

You'd think she'd have learned that lesson by now.

I don't think Logan wanted Rory to pick him. I was looking very closely for signs that he was ready and willing to be her rebound guy after Dean dumped her (yay, Dean! Sorry Rory always craps all over you, but at least you're free!!). Logan's expression seemed very platonic to me. He wasn't making a move.

Possibly one of my favorite episodes all season.

Luke/Lorelai
First off, that was one hot kiss. My god. I can see why ASP's keeping the kissing to a minimum, because, wow, LG and SP really heat up the screen. Their chemistry is totally through the roof. The best part of the kiss was the way Lorelai looked at Luke when they broke apart. She's completely smitten.
Damn T.J. for ruining the dinner, but what we got was very cute. The way Lorelai brushed her hand down the back of Luke's head, the "perfect man" line, Lorelai in a maid's uniform. Speaking of which, I was expecting some kind of sexy maid comment.
The scene in the beginning? So funny. The mountaineer hat, or, whatever it was, was hilarious. "It's so amazing how you keep it balanced when we're-" ASP's the only one who gives us sexy banter between L/L. Gotta love her for that! I totally loved the look Lorelai gave Luke before she left, and Luke goes, "you're picturing me in the hat", and she just grins.

Rory
Dean's gone, yay! Although, it seemed kind of rushed to me. That scene at the end between R/D was probably the best acted scene between the two of them all season. AB's "Dean" was very well done. JP did a pretty good job, too.
I love Logan. I love that he hasn't fallen for Rory yet. I say yet, because it's inevitable. Matt's ****ing hot.
Nice touch with the way Rory kept fiddling with the straps of the dress. She looked beautiful, although there were certain parts when she looked kind of fat in the dress, which was probably due to the angle.
Tipsy!Rory's funny. I laughed when she almost fell when she stepped out of the limo. The last scene was awesome. Lorelai's look, and the realization that her daughter's embracing a totally new scene, and the way she just dropped the curtain. Dude, Rory's way too nice. If I was her, I would have gotten out of that party as fast as I could. Although, when Logan came along, it wasn't that bad at all. Logan and Rory have some chemistry, I'll admit it. I'm not a shipper, though.
My friend's cousin was the guy who was on Rory's right before she went into the study to call Lorelai. He was saying something about a 1600 something. Can't remember.

Lane
Great scene between her and Kyon at Mrs. Kim's house. Educating!Lane was fun to see. Kyon eating fries was hilarious. Zach and Lane just don't do it for me, but, they're cute as friends.

Emily and Richard
They just get more mapulative every episode, huh? The conniving is probably what will bring them back together. Emily's hair changed every scene, it seemed.

L/L's kiss was ****ing hot.

ASP actually made me care about Dean/Rory. I think I cried. What the hell??!!

I'm so glad I know what a Mountie hat is....... :thud:
They're good for mounting, you know.

And...Scott uses tongue?? Hmm....

Talona42 11-10-2004 01:30 AM

I was talking about Rory picking Logan before he knew she had a boyfriend. I got the feeling he was trying to act like he didn't want her to, but sorta did.
