Yeah I felt so bad for Asami basically having to turn on him. But it had to be hard for them all since he helped all of them.

Then again he's an equalist. So even though he sponsored them for their pro-bending championship game, he also was likely aware of the assault at the arena so

Oooo I hadn't thought of that. That makes it even sadder. He just threw money at them knowing something bad would happen

I guess it would have been a good cover though, he could say he sponsored pro bending so he couldn't be an equalist. Though fortunately they busted him pretty fast so it didn't come to that.
