They both were drawn to a different parent who were polar opposites of each other

Zuko's relationship with his dad was extra complicated and Azula's relationship with her mother extra complicated.

Yeah they both had complicated parent relationships. Zuko got the mother's love that Azula really wanted and she got the father's approval that he really wanted (though he eventually moved past it, she didn't seem to)

Zuko was able to grow and see beyond his family

Azula was unfortunately in way too deep. She couldn't escape and it eventually broke her. It goes to show that while Azula may be a more gifted bender, Zuko has a stronger inner strength.

Really well said! I agree that Zuko was the mentally stronger one. I think his growth was very impressive. Azula didn't really get that.

I found The Drill to be an an interesting episode for them and another great example of their differences. Zuko is trying to find refuge in Ba Sing Se while Azula is trying to conquer it.

Ooooo I didn't think of that while I was watching but you're right! Zuko is just trying to find a safe place to be at peace and Azula is trying to conquer the last earth kingdom stronghold.

Goes to show there is never any peace in the world so long as Zuko's father and sister are still calling the shots.
