I really liked how they used it to give all of the "villains" backstory. It was such a clever way to do that.

The "bad guys" aren't always just going around making problems for the world It was fun to see.

Yeah, personally villain backstories for me are a must. You can't just have a villain be evil for the sake of being villain and that being their only personality trait. Like I want to know what's going on inside their heads!

A lot of stories are like that with basic villains I agree that a character with layers will always be more satisfying. I won't agree with the villainous motives, but it's nice to know why they are there.

I totally agree! The villains need a motive and lots of layers.

It's why book villains can be often way more intriguing to me personally because their motivations are more clear and can be explained or shown better.
