The poor guy though. He really didn't expect that these new airbenders wouldn't want to come with him to learn more about the culture.

Yeah it's so exciting for him I think he thought everyone else would feel the same way and wasn't really prepared for people not feeling the same way.

Airbending culture is well a part of history by now. It's likely not something anyone ever thinks of and, with the progression of the world, it surely feels outdated. I don't think he'd convince me either

Yeah the big airbender societies have been gone for like almost 200 years if my math is right? Most people probably don't think about it much as you said. I definitely don't think about 1822 society and it would seem insanely outdated Especially with all the new technology they have in Korra. I think people will be hesitant to give that up. I don't know if I'd go either.

Heading toward 200 years A very long time! It's sadly so true! If there is nobody, or not many, around to preserve a history then it will fade away. Maybe airbenders would have developed a bit more with the times, maybe not, but I think Aang felt a big responsibility to preserve the way he was brought up.

That's unfortunately very true. There wasn't really anyone around to share the airbender knowledge. That's a good question if they would have developed more if there had been more of them. Maybe not as much since they did seem a little isolated. I think as it is now Aang definitely wanted to preserve it though.

They definitely would have been the most slow moving civilization even if they had continued to exist Tradition was such a big part of the Air Nation. I remember it was a theme for Aang in ATLA as well, history clashing with progress. He eventually came around.

Yeah from what we saw of it in ATLA the air nation seemed very traditional. Aang seemed to struggle with some of the progress at the Northern Air Temple (at least at first). I don't think it would change much, even it was bigger.

Agreed Though in fairness to Aang he did skip 100 years of progress

It was so sweet to see Tenzin find airbenders who wanted to follow him He helped save them and gave them a choice about what it was they wanted to do and they chose joining him at the air temple

That's true too I'm trying to imagine someone from 1922 being thrown into today and it's not pretty.

I was so happy he finally got some people to go along with him! Giving them the choice seemed to work really well, especially since they'd just had that taken away from them since they were basically being forced to bend down in those caves. Though they may have been swayed by the fact that he'd just saved them

It did Plus they'd already learned how to use their airbending a bit and had learned what they could do, so they're a bit more used to it, which I think helped him too.

Yes he can!

It's a little freaky Zaheer was on his island and near his kids without him knowing. Though I guess he's really only after Korra.

That is certainly unnerving But it's true that luckily he has no interest in them.

Tenzin struggling to be a good teacher lives on He is just really good at being boring
