On that note, did we ever learn anything about Luka's mother? I know his father was a part of Season 14, but I can't off-hand recall anything about the mother.

Nope. As far as we know, Luka was "a wee motherless mongrel," to borrow from Liam Neeson in "Love, Actually." And he had a brother, except for the time he had more than one brother.

Too bad. A Luka/Abby/Maggie/Mrs. Kovac scene could have been something surreal during the Joe/NICU period in Season 13.

Based on the line in "I Don't" with Abby saying the pearls belonged to Luka's mother, I would guess that his mom had died and probably had been gone for a number of years. For someone who was on the show as long as Goran was, Luka did not get the family background as some of the other main, long term characters. Heck, I think we knew just as much about Cleo's parents as we did Luka's.

I guess Goran said he didn't want to do anything more political after the Vukovar storyline, so maybe they shied away from anything to do with his history.
