ER Episode Discussion: 13.19 "Family Business" {April 19, 2007}

From NBCUMV:

Quote:
THERE'S NOTHING QUITE LIKE FAMILY - STACY KEACH ("PRISON BREAK"), KEN DAVITIAN ("BORAT"), ROBERT PROSKY ("HILL STREET BLUES") AND ANDY PROSKY("LAW & ORDER") GUEST STAR - When a young man (guest star Andy Prosky) comes into the ER with heart failure, Kovac (Goran Visnjic) and Gates (John Stamos) must deal with the helpless father (guest star Robert Prosky) left behind. An Armenian man (guest star Ken Davitian) takes the time out of his schedule and risks his own life to be a good Samaritan. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) takes the high road and attempts to make amends with his brother. Meanwhile, Abby (Maura Tierney) and Gates (John Stamos) deal with the constant challenges of parenthood. Shane West and Parminder Nagra also star.
Looks like we might see baby Joe again!

OK!! Now that we know that Sarah isn't Gates daughter, can we finally stop being forced fed with Gates? We know more about him than any other character on ER right now and he's not even been on a full season yet. The disfunctional relationship with his father seems unoriginal and predictable. Please TPTB, let's focus on other characters. What about Ray? He has been on for three seasons and has had no character development and hardly gets any screentime. He is a much more likable character than Gates. Can't you guys have him do more than just pine over Neela all day? The scenes with Pratt and his brother were encouraging. It is good to see that relationship gets some revival. Seems as if Pratt really wants to make a change in his personal relationships. It will be interesting to see if he goes all the way and makes amends with his father. I like how Sam's character is developing. Seems as if there may be a romance brewing with that trainer. The storyline with Luka and the father with alzheimers was very touching. You can tell Luka has a yearning to see his father again. Overall, a pretty satisfactory episode.

I liked the bulk of the episode, though I have to say that Gates is a very ROUGH looking 36 year old (yeah not buying it, writers, sorry). It's nice to see Pratt trying to work things out with his brother and it looks like he may have something going on in his personal life again (yay, Betina).

Sam's storyline with the cop was cute, painful for him, but cute.

Alzheimer's father was heartbreaking and I felt bad that Luka had to keep breaking the news to him repeatedly. Hello, anvils.

I don't understand the whole John Stamos is the show thing. But, thinking about it, almost all the character when they came on the show have had there share of a few shows dediated to just them. The Only problem is that the story line having to deal the thing most viewer are interested in is being snobbed. [COLOR="Magenta"][QUOTE

Well, as you all know by now, I was dissapointed. The episode had its moments, though.

The Alzheimer's patient really reminded me of a lady I took care of on my last clinical rotation; at the beginning of the day, she told me how her husband had died several months earlier. Later on in the day when she was more confused, she told me she was expecting him to visit. That's incredibly sad stuff, guys. It really happens to them, and it's so heartbreaking.

I liked the story with the Armenian guys, although it could have developed a little more.

Sam's story was ok; I feel like she's just having fling after fling at this point, though. And they all come with their own little brand of dysfunction. However, I'll wait and see what happens for her.

The thing with Sam and Ray and the V-Tach faker were cute.

Ray and Neela... I can't even get my thoughts out without shuddering uncontrollably. I am so angry about it all... yuck.

I liked the story with Gates and Sarah this week. They have a great dynamic together, even if Sarah's man-crush on him is borderline creepy.

I'm hoping for something a lot better next week.

It was a mash up from the next two episodes.

You may want to edit your post as spoilers are discussed in another thread on the spoiler board.

Awww, the Alzheimer's patient was so moving i thought.
Why did neela have to touch gates hand and why does ray have to misinterpret everything!
Lol at sam with the fake patient, TPTB have def made sam more likeable the past coupla episodes imo, not that i didn't like her before, but i agree with the fact that without iritating alex by her side she's def improved.
I can't believe pratt seemed to be gettin away with being....well, not a very good 'boyfriend' not that u can call it that hehe.
Didn't like the way gates seemed to be kissing pratt's ass re: contacts for his brother and the EMT, in order for pratt to let him perform things/like him more.
The Lubby moment in the locker room with Joe was v.cute......aww, i can't help but wish Reela would be given more cute moments ;-( ah well, keep dreamin eh

G-UNIT, I couldn't agree with you more. I have been saying the same things about Ray's character development for a while now. Ray's main function this season seems to be to come in, make a couple of comments, stare longingly at Neela and then disappear for the rest of the episode. I haven't liked Gates since the first moment I laid eyes on him. I am not a big fan of someone who thinks he can do what he wants disregarding his bosses' orders and displays a less-than-respectful attitude. Maybe it is because it reminds me of a couple of people I work with, that's why I don't tolerate it too well. The only thing that would remotely make it ALMOST worth it, is if Ray and Neela end up together.
