Angela Bassett/Cate Banfield Appreciation #1: Because the ER's got its groove back!

I'm loving ER again! Angela Bassett has brought a depth back to it, that hasn't been there for years. I genuinely feel that she should get an Emmy.

I watched Heal Thyself twice, it wes brilliant. Her perfomance was just something that hasn't been on the programme for years.

I'm glad that she's a very blunt character as well, and that she seems to be whipping the other doctors into shape because for a while there I felt that the doctors didn't seem to care as they used to and their practises were sloppy.
Now, ER has returned to highlighting the care-giving nature of the Doctors.

What do others think about the Queen of ER? LOL!

I think banfield is another version of Dr. Weaver and I grew to love Weaver, I think Banfield brings back the spunk that it lost when Weaver left. She's pretty interesting I'll give her that, I hope she has a good ending to the show.

Yes

Well I agree. She has traces of Weaver, but I think all ER's need their strict manager type people, and the way things were in the ER, it is really refreshing. As we know Weaver relaxed and mellow following the birth of her son, etc.
So Angela's Banfield is a much needed addition to the show. I hope she is catered for well in the last few episodes and not sidelined off, because the older members have decided to return (IE Abby).

I really liked Angela's character a lot. It took me time to get used to her though, she was a little more abrasive and tough then I would've liked I mean even Kerry on her first day wasn't that tough, but overall I liked her. She definitely had some Kerry traits about her, but she was her own person and had her reasons for it and it was hard for her to open up and we knew why after sometime with her episode Heal Thyself which btw was an awesome episode. I love Cate's chemistry with her husband Russell and of course it's probably because Courtney and Angela are married real-life usually if people are married real life they have the chemistry on screen too. I also loved her and Archie's friendship as well I'm glad she finally had someone to open up too and trust she needed someone I think. I'm very surprised Cate told Archie about everything she had been through not to mention losing her child at County and that he kept it to himself I think that was great and I'm glad she trusted him enough to tell him.she could have just lied, but I'm glad she didn't. The scenes with Russell, Cate and that baby were too cute! I'm so happy they got their family they always wanted again they deserved it.

I totally agree. I was not a fan of hers at first but I don't think we were supposed to be. So it was nice to have the slow reveal about what had happened to her son and why she had such a hard time getting along with the staff at County when the hospital held such painful memories for her. I too really liked the bond that developed between her and Archie, and it was wonderful to see her and Russell finally get the baby.

Yeah I mean she had her reasons for being tough and we saw that her first day and on and plus she had connections to County as Haleh mentions her first day as saying she had remembered her which at that time we didn't know what Haleh meant whereas Kerry didn't have any connections to County at all she just wanted a job there and everything you know so I thought that was awesome twist in Cate's storyline where she had connections to County instead of just like Kerry being there for a job and starting something new. As for her and Archie yeah she needed a friend and I was very surprised that Archie was that friend I mean Archie wasn't the best secret keeper by any means but with Cate he did keep her secrets, their relationship was very odd yet it was great too, they had a bond without being all touchy/feely with each other. As for Cate & Russell I agree there too..their chemistry was awesome and I'm so glad they had Angela's real-life husband play her character's husband on the show that was just a great idea! kinda weird too, but I didn't mind it after a while because I think their instant chemistry made up for the weirdness. I knew that Cate wanted that baby once it was in the ER I mean I could tell she was getting attached to him once she held him for the first time when she was feeding him which was so cute, plus the baby was adorable as well. I'm so happy that she told the mother that she could still be a part of her baby's life and watch him grow up that was just the best way to go.

Hey I just thought I'd post up a few Cate Icons I've made. I'm not sure if I should also post them in the fanart section as well, but since they are Cate Icons I'll post them here only at the moment.

Watching "Music of the Heart" (a movie in which Meryl Streep teaches music to inner city elementary kids) and Angela is the school principal!

Angela, who of course co-starred with Whitney in "Waiting to Exhale" released a statement about Whitney's death:

Quote:
"I am so thankful to have been enveloped by the warmth of Whitney's great talents. They were undeniable and vast," Bassett said in a statement. "Whatever her burdens, she has at last laid them down and picked up instead a crown. For truly, she was and will ever be for us — who were so captivated by her strengths — unparalleled."
