There's an age gap between Maddie and Buck. Wasn't she alive to have known her brother? So it wouldn't have been possible to keep from her. I'm guessing Buck wasn't born or was a baby when their brother died.

Yeah. Maddie was 9 years old when Buck was born. And it seems like they made her keep quiet and not the mention Daniel ever again. Not to anyone else or to Buck. Which is really bad to make a 9 year old girl to do.

I think/have a feeling he either wasn't born yet or just had been born when Daniel died. And because Buck was a boy the parents expected him to be like Daniel. And when he wasn't they stopped caring.
