Yup and that was quite a bit ago. I know Damian Holbrook loved it...but maybe he's easy to please.

Oh those reviews aren't too promising

That first one basically saying that it overemphasizes thing too much might just be a pilot thing to kind of establish everything. So we'll see.

I've only seen two comments about Tom Swift: the Variety one Muffy posted and a comment from Damian Hollbrook.

I expect it to be seriously tropey...but I'm 95% watching for Tian. The only 5% is because of potential of TRB plot.

Yeah, I'm watching because I really fell in love with his Tom Swift. There's nothing to compare it to because he's technically the first live action version. Tom Swift appeared in some 1983 live action special that was a ratings failure. A film never got off the ground. Film talks started in 1914! Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys are pop culture icons.

Never knew this! Very cool! Do you know who played Tom?

I laughed at that too. I never heard of it until I decided to Google *Tom Swift* Edward Stratemeyer's ghost should be thanking his other child Nancy Drew for finally bringing a live action Tom Swift to the masses.

Okay so I watched the Pilot and although it was full of tropes and very fast moving...it was solid. It wasn't the best thing I've ever seen, but it wasn't the worst. I saw on twitter that they wrote this episode at the same time they wrote ND 2x15 "The Celestial Visitor"...and honestly it KINDA shows...but it is what it is. Most shows don't find their footing until several episodes in...and I'm hoping that's the case with this show.

I took some notes while I was watching too...

Quote:
- I love Zenzi already! Finally a role for Ashleigh Murray!
- Vibes between Zenzi and Tom's bodyguard, Isaac? Are we headed towards two separate love triangles???
- Did his dad actually GO to Saturn?! What year is this?!!?
- Six Months Later?!?! They jumped ahead the span of ND's ENTIRE SERIES TIMELINE!
- His dad never got on the ship did he?! Unless he's really dead?
- Awww Isaac and Tom!
- Isaac! I saw that look at Zenzi! And I'm kinda into it!
- Did he use the sonic screwdriver to break in?!
- How come everyone gets a super close proximity scene but Nace?
- Isaac roughing up Rowan.
- Tom dissing his bestie?!!?
- The Road Back! Wouldn't Tom remember Nancy and everyone talking about it?
- Tom really has THREE love interests in ONE EPISODE?! Tom is DEFINITELY the new self-insert!
- I knew his dad wasn't dead!
Overall, I hope the show leans more into the adventure, team camaraderie, and mystery of it all...instead of personal melodrama. Some of the acting and writing was wonky...but everyone generally had chemistry...but I think 2x15 was a better introduction to Tom Swift than this episode.

It was super weird that Nancy OR Horseshoe Bay was not mentioned in any way. The only real Easter egg was the mention of the meteorite...which we saw Tom get his hands on in 2x15...but they didn't even use flashbacks or anything. And there was similar dialogue about how his father didn't want a gay son...which is something he also told Nancy. But that's it. If I didn't know this show was a spin-off of Nancy Drew, I never would have even known there was ANY CONNECTION.

But...we know that there will eventually be Easter Eggs to ND...so I'm guessing that will happen later on in the season as the mystery of The Road Back unfolds and Tom maybe remembers he dealt with them once before...years ago.

I didn't take any notes or anything but I watched. I wasn't quite as interested in it as I am with ND but it seems pretty good so far! It felt like a lot happened but hopefully that was just it being the pilot and having a lot to establish.

Ashleigh and Tian are amazing so far!

I thought the same thing I hope Melinda and Noga look back at this and are like "was that so hard" and put a time jump into ND.

Isaac's awesome so far! They'd be really cute

I took notes to keep my thoughts organized, but I don't know if I'll do it every episode. It's definitely not the same as ND for me either.

It probably physically pained them to move ahead so much time!

I honestly think he's my favorite so far along with Zenzi. This wasn't Tom's best episode, but I can forgive him because he was grieving (even though he came off as extremely unlikable at times).

Wait, they did a six month time jump?! Never seen such trolling when it comes to a time line my entire life. I'm referring to Nancy Drew. You get a kiss. You get a kiss. Sorry, Nace, the kissing booth is closed.

YES! They legitimately went "SIX MONTHS LATER" and I was like....?!!??!?!!??!!??!?!?!?

Like I'm not asking for that much time to pass between scenes on ND...but at least let time pass naturally throughout the season!?

It's insane how they do not take advantage of holidays on a series like this.
