Yes, apparently it was talked about in the in the Star Wars Icons: Han Solo book, somebody posted screen shots of the chapter on tumblr and reddit transcribed it:

Quote:
In the final act of The Force Awakens, Solo sets off one final mission, flying with Finn and Chewbacca aboard the Falcon to the First Order’s imposing Starkiller Base. There, Han comes face-to-face with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) on a narrow catwalk inside the space station and strives to convince his son to return home to the parents who love him. (The staging is strikingly reminiscent of the confrontation between Luke and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes back.) But Ren resists, eventually igniting his cross guard lightsaber and impaling his father, whose body falls away into the vast expanse below. “He dies unhappily,” Kasdan says. “He feels that he’s failed. He thinks he’s making progress, he thinks he’s going to get redemption, but it’s denied him by Kylo.”

The dialogue for the sequence was revised many times, Kasdan says. The screenwriter even worked on various versions of the scene as The Force Awakens was shooting, collaborating with his own son Jonathan, a filmmaker in his own right (having directed 2007’s In the Land of Women and 2012’s The First Time). “We wrote many, many versions of it,” Lawrence Kasdan says. “It was constantly debated among the three of us: What were the right words? With Adam and Harrison, it was a very emotional scene for them to play and to get just the right number of words, to get just the right evocative language. What would speak to the entire history of this thing? It was labored over for a long time. Some of our first draft is in there, but there [were] many, many changes by the time we got to it.”

For the actors, the scene played out instinctually. “Harrison and I never discussed it,” says Adam Driver. “I remember Lawrence Kasdan talking to me about it briefly the day of [the shoot] before we started, but the back and forth was very minimal. I was equally excited and dreading it because it had an air of importance. The actual shooting of it, there was also very little dialogue between takes. Harrison and I talked about other things eventually while shooting, but never the scene.” “Harrison is brilliant,” Driver continues. “He is very grounded and present and thoughtful and exploratory. You can see every thought. When I have to take off the mask and literally face him, all my analytics about what the scene should be easily go away when you look at Harrison. I’ll say it was a very warm, friendly and actually very familial feeling... considering what I was doing to him and what he was saying to me.” As usual, Ford brought his own stamp to the sequence—it was his idea to reach out and touch his son’s face as Solo’s last act. “I only remember that because J.J. said, ‘No, come on,’” Ford says. “I said, ‘Yeah... come on. Let’s shoot it both ways.’ It was such a big moment for Adam and for me. I thought there was great weight on the scene because it made no sense for Han to step out of the shadows and confront this guy because of how dangerous [he] knew him to be. I was very concerned about how we blocked that moment and phrased it. Everybody on the set was very aware that this was a critical juncture in the development of the whole thing.”

Ford says he felt at peace with the way Han finally met his fate. Rather than experiencing sadness on his last day on The Force Awakens set, the actor says, “It felt fine. I was very comfortable with the whole thing.”

That's awesome, thanks for bringing it over!

Btw, this made me laugh:

^^ That's wonderful

Lots of good quotes there for future titles

I love Harrison's nonchalant attitude to Han's death I never see it as offensive; He always said he felt Han should die a heroic death.

What's more heroic than dying for your wife and son? I hated TFA for it at the time, but now I love the symbolism of it, and I hope that it pays off in Ep IX.

Tar He was always blunt about treating each role like a job.

I have a love/hate relationship with Han dying because he's my fave SW character ever, but that scene was the best acted scene in TFA, Harrison/Adam are insanely talented apart and together But I do find it hilarious how blasé Harrison is about Han, always has been

I hated that he died but it was a well written, directed and acted scene. And knowing that the face tough was added by Harrison just makes it better.

I agree with this tweet, and I hope to see some type of scene in IX where Ben reflects on his time as a young boy with Han (and Leia) ~

I personally don't have a problem with that. It's sad, sure but sometimes evil people are just that, evil. If anything, there's a bigger problem with humanizing evil men, especially if they are played by white men.

I can see both sides for sure! But based on the fact that this is our last connection to the original characters and how Han died trying to redeem his son, I'd feel very upset for him, Leia and Luke if Ben just went 100% evil by the end. Bit of a waste of a storyline, if they wanted to make him evil they shouldn't have done all they did with his character in these two movies
