So I use Photoshop, so for that icon I had to use THIS picture, so I erased the background and cropped it to the size I wanted like THIS.
Next I adjust to the coloring with brightness/saturation + color balance + selective colors until it looks the way I like it.
Now underneath the picture layer I added the background with a solid color (Dark Red) and a texture on top or use a gradient layer with 2 similar colorings (THIS).
Then picked the text/quote and picked 2 different types of fonts and 3 different colors (THIS).
Thank you for explaining in such detail, Si I'm definitely going to give it another go.
