Your Achilles heel of Fanart

What is something you know you need to work on when making fanarts or you just can't ever get it right? For me it is text. Whenever I finish the art, I dread the text. I am not the best with text effects, all mine are boring and always the same thing

What about you guys?

Definitely text and textures, I never can com up with good text and it also always looks bad. And somehow I also never can use textures the right away.

Yeah, for me it both text and textures too. The text is always so blah, and the textures just never work out for me.

I think for me, it's text, too. But I also think I've improved in that area, too.

Just keep at it!

I'd have to say text, I can make a piece in a few hours and then spend more time looking for the right lyrics ect then I spent on the piece its self

As far as for style, episodic walls I tend to struggle with, you hand me a few promo images and I can put something together quickly you hand me screencaps and I start to stress and swear at my computer

Screencaps can be a pain to color and when you color them then there can appear this ugly smudge. That's a big reason why I never make big arts I guess.

Rella: Aw. You just need to find good hi-res screencaps. After finding those, it should look pretty and not a smudge!

Firecracker: Like I said to Rella, just need to find some good hi-res screencaps.

I know it's hard to find those, but it's worth the look when you do find it.

Sometimes, it takes me an hour or two just to find the "perfect" font for a piece of art. Tisk!

Textures for me. I'm good with the coloring and making images look better but when it comes to adding more to icons, I get lost. I'm mostly a plain kinda person anyhow.

I'm not great with bigger graphics either. I can only use pretty HQ pics for those and I usually only use one or two with a texture, I suck at making them look decent together. I don't mean the blending, just finding images that "fit".

I think my caps are pretty Hi-Res. I most of the time make them in BMP and use them in that too cause when you change them to JPG the reselution or something goes down.

Really? I thought that BMP was bad quality!

Wow I didn't know that!

I read somewhere that changing them to JPG and make graphics then is bad, but maybe they where wrong.

I know that converting from BMP to JPG will cause quality loss (not res) but BMP usually results in large files. Saving in PNG, to my knowledge is usually better (lossless or something to that effect, but same quality as BMP but a smaller size).

Whoops! I meant quality.

I gotta agree about the size of BMP and it can get pretty huge, but I never keep my files on my computer neither. When I'm done with them then it's goodbye to them.

I would say that lighting, shadow and shading is my biggest problem. I can usually get it to look alright in the end but it takes a really long time. I guess it´s because i can´t draw or paint so it doesn´t come natural to me how it should look.

Then there´s some styles i just can´t seem to get right, like pop art. I can make dark and depressing art in my sleep but every time i try to make something really "happy" like pop art my mind just freezes and i usually just give up after a while.
