Comic spoilers ahead! They could lead to potential future show storylines. Or not. Discuss at your own risk.

Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, the series debuted in July 2003. The series was canceled in
September 2004 at issue 18, but due to high numbers of trade collection sales, Marvel revived the series in February 2005.

Series creators Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona left the series at issue 24 of the title's second volume (which ended at issue 30).
The series was cancelled in November 2009 after issue 14 of Volume 3, but the characters were occasionally seen in other comics.

In September 2017, a new revival of the series began, with Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka as the new creative team.

Thanks for opening this. :)

I haven't read the comics but I did read a bit about some SLs and characters after watching the 2nd ep. I mostly read about Pride stuff because they confuse me the most.

I actually started reading the comics, or at least the original run. It's interesting the changes. I'm glad to get more of the parents.

There is a thing in the comics that I hope either never happens or it did happen but with a different character and it stays that way.

One change I didn't like is how the show got rid of the parents' interesting supervillain archetypes. The Deans aren't aliens, the Minorus aren't dark wizards, the Yorkses aren't time travellers, and the Wilders aren't really crime lords. Instead, they're just rich people who got roped into a scheme, kinda boring in comparison.

I like that we have more parents, but I'm with you. Their cool backstory of supervillains is totally gone. All those little things would have been interesting.

We don't know what they're doing with time travel, though. Victor's into it. And the Yorkes got a dinosaur...

And Jonah seems to be an alien, so it Karolina, but not her parents.

Geoffrey was a gangster, but not any more.

And they just reconned Tina's staff to be ~science.

I get there are issues with legality for Molly being a mutant, but none of the rest really makes sense.

oh wow this sounds really cool!! I kind of wish they would have done this on the show now.

Yeah, they were legit supervillains. They still are terrible people, but it seems to be because of lies and blackmail. Not cut and dry like the comics.

Maybe they switched up the time-travelling of the Yorkes into the Steins instead? It kind of looks like we'll have some more time-travelling stuff in future eps if there's anything to go by with Victor's time machine which is actually working.

Yeah, they haven't made the parents out to be evil like in the comics, but rather was manipulated by Jonah, and that they really do love their kids. I guess maybe its way to keep the parents in the show?

One Thing Remains 01-17-2018 04:03 PM

They still have to be evil on some level though because they sacrificed all those kids to keep Jonah alive. They are definitely no super villains but it's hard to think of them as just being manipulated when they murdered all those kids. They knew what they were doing.

Stay to the Lights 01-17-2018 06:26 PM

They did, they didn't like to do it, but it felt like they felt they had no choice. Wonder if Jonah had threatened their kids if they didn't do it? During the confrontation, didn't they say, they did it for them?

We really don't know the motives right now. How much they are taking from the comics, and how much they are not using and making up.

Artemis 01-17-2018 08:44 PM

Yeah, there are still a lot we don't know. They're stretching out the comics to make a multi-season show.

We know from the comics, despite how evil they are, they love and care about their children and do it for them. And that's stayed the same to some extent.

Yeah, the parents aren't blameless. They're not great people. They continued to murder people for power and money. But they're not the same as the comics. They're more fleshed out and gray, instead of everything being black and white.

I actually didn't feel like the parents cared for the kids in the earlier eps. They were more concerned about their little group but the last few eps of the season made me change my mind especially when Jonah came around.

Yeah, I definitely think Jonah's appearance change things, the parents probably didn't see a reason for concern til now, but with him in the picture, they prob know what he is capable of.
