I feel a little lost perhaps because I didn’t watch the other seasons but I’m wondering how Peter Morgan knows this many intimate details about the royal family or did he make it up?

I love the series premiere!
Favorite moments was when Charles & Diana met. That was so sweet. I actually forgot that Charles dated Sarah Spencer first before Diana. Another favorite is when Thatcher & QE meet. The minute Gillian opened her mouth, I was impressed. She sounds so much like Thatcher it was surreal. I love seeing Princess Anne back. She's her usual sassy self and she makes me laugh. So great to see her horseback riding as she is great at it. Lord Mountbatten's death was the ep I was waiting for and them opening the season with this one gave me goosebumps. That's how violent the IRA was back then that they would actually resort to something like this to kill a member of the royal family. Dickie's letter to Charles was heartbreaking. He really became the father of Charles because, as we saw in past seasons, Charles & Philip did not have a close relationship. Myra, some of the stuff are written to add drama but most of the stuff is accurate. I think Peter Morgan consults with a Royalist and has enough experience being British to know more about the Royal family. __________________

Such a great episode!
I knew the boat was going to blow up, but it was such a tear-jerker! I really felt for Charles here losing the one person who could reach out to him. That conversation with Philip was heartbreaking. __________________

The lead up to that boat incident was nerve wracking. It was so wonderfully edited. Dickie seemed so happy too.
Superb acting by Tobias & Josh indeed. That entire scene was very telling indeed. __________________

I admit that I’m watching this season because of Gillian but she’s not remotely my favorite character on the show. I find Thatcher very dry and misogynistic and I don’t like her at all which I guess speaks to how well Gillian is playing the role. I am not a fan of the royals but I did enjoy Princess Anne because she is sassy and sarcastic.
I’ll probably be the only one who feels this way but I find Charles to be creepy. I am dreading Diana joining the family since I wasn’t a fan of that relationship or how horribly they treated her in real life. Her sister is awful as well. Quote:

You should watch the previous seasons, Myra. It really shows why Charles behaves the way he does if you see his early life.

Charles is a lot more than creepy. he's always been the royal I've hated most all my life. I admit I felt for him in the previous seasons, he was treated horribly by his family but it's no excuse to become such a terrible person either
I had no idea that Uncle Dickie died that way, it was shocking such a tragedy.. though I'd never defend Charles I think the way Philip acted towards him was a bit harsh, I mean it wasn't his fault that Dickie loved him and he needed more of his help than Philip did later on. I mean Charles was a kid and Philip was an adult so it's understandable __________________

Someone was saying they sympathize with Thatcher but I could never feel sorry for someone as awful as she was no matter the circumstance. |

yes exactly. he's not an innocent victim in all this. if you love Camilla more than anything then why do you flirt with other women? Camilla has no self worth either if she's just fine with that, but they really deserve each other then.
there were moments I felt bad for MT too but only because I love Gillian she certainly did not deserve anyone's pity __________________

But he wasn't with Camilla yet during the first episode or did I miss something?
I love Gillian too but I feel like I'm not even watching her in the role. |
