wow this was a...heavy episode

that disaster it reminded me of the Chernobyl series.. both caused by human mistake as usual I was crying so hard...

I was really surprised that Tony was pretty much the first to react from the family members and it definitely made me hate him less. he really cared. and I don't think Elizabeth didn't but she had to hide her emotions all her life he just couldn't react naturally anymore. and she's had to live through so many tragedies over the years, people can just become numb to that.

Oh wow, this just made me absolutely bawl. I knew what was going to happen, but to actually see the moment of the disaster, inside the classroom, was so distressing!

Interesting to learn that the Queen regretted her delayed response to the disaster as well.

This episode, OMG. I didn't know so I was shocked. My jaw was literally open and it's horrible this has happened.

Very interesting that it was QE who didn't visit Aberfan early on. She did make a point: the monarchy visits hospitals not the accident site. But this has been an ongoing problem with the monarchy regarding how distant they are to the British public (which I'm hoping they'll touch on with Diana's death later on). That ending with QE remaining stoic and repressing her emotions until she finally shed a tear was a great way to end this ep.

I had no idea she had visited that late either
It is interesting that after that visit she made more visits than any other royal probably to slightly rectify her own mistake. At least she did learn from that.

They always do have to keep up appearances being the monarchy and it's hard. I'm glad she realized later on that she made a mistake and rectified it by visiting more regularly from then on.

I do wonder how much truth there is to Elizabeth's unability to cry, is that from inside reports or an assumption?

not sure. it was understandable she was hesitant to go, like her grandma told her once, it's the hardest to do nothing but it's what the monarchy has to do many times

No idea. I know she doesn't show it in public, but that's not the same as not being able to do it at all.

Outstanding control by Olivia though.

I can imagine QE being instructed not to be too emotional plus they've been this way since time in memorial and she has obviously been good at repressing her emotions. I do hope this has a bearing in future eps where the queen got even more distant and repressive in the public eye.

yeah good point, it was nice to see some good actions by Tony!!

Well her grandmother did tell her when she rose to the throne that she had to be the Queen at all times... that she couldn't be able to show anyone who she truly was
perhaps she took that too literally

I think it's how she was taught to handle things to keep emotions bundled up
