LOVE this ep, mostly for Elizabeth (and Churchill).

Elizabeth is angry at her mother for not giving her a normal education. She was home schooled and taught other things fit for royalty. Personally, I'd like to be a royalty for this part because I wouldn't want to learn Math. So good on her for wanting to learn and asking a help from a professor.

This was also the ep where we see both Churchill and Eden fall ill. She gave Lord Salisbury a good scolding that left him speechless and he was dismissed right away. She was more polite with Churchill but John Lithgow's sad face made me want to hug him. I think this was also the episode where I can see Elizabeth finally learning the ropes of being a monarch and learning how to deal with being a queen, governing, and that scene between her & Churchill in the end pretty much makes this ep A+ for me. So so good.

This one is my favorite episode because of Elizabeth taking charge the way she did and scolding the men. I adored that.

Right? Poor Lord Salisbury for not being able to say a word to Elizabeth. I like how she contrasted her approach to both men as she was more gentle with Churchill and yet she still scolded him. Both of them were so wrong to do what they did.

She did that quite beautifully yes!

And she looked so nervous to do it but she did a great job. And it needed to be done!

She did and she knew it had to be done. The great thing about S1 is we really see Elizabeth struggle with her family and being a queen. She's obviously good at it now but it takes time to do this and tbh, she does it quite well given the circumstances she's in (and the very conservative situation back then).

So true!

Also her age I think should be taken into play. Not only was it a more conservative time, but you're asking a young woman and mother to separate between queen, leader of the church, and a person.

EXACTLY. You said it best. It's a very tough situation. It's very easy for everyone else because they're not the monarch so I really admired Elizabeth more in this episode and can see why it's tough for her having incompetent leaders who both lied to her about their illness. They also acted like they can get away with it which didn't sit well with me.

I agree Lindsay. They should have been upfront and honest with her. It's ridiculous that they tried to hide this stuff from her.

I totally agree with this! It was nice seeing Elisabeth grow as a queen in this episode to be honest!

It must have tough to figure out how to navigate and balance her role as Queen in the government. I think she did extremely well in the handling of this situation.
