It will really sucks if the writers don't give us them after everyting. From confirming Will is in love with Mike in the last season. If they were not in the plan they shouldn't have Will being in love with Mike at all. And the looks Mike was giving Will during the whole last season and let's not forget the whole painting situation. Plus that they made the painting into merch that is selling at the Stranger Things Experince. It would just be super weird and upsetting if it doesn't happen in season 5.

There has been a lot of foundation set for them that seems super obvious yet apparently many casual viewers don't pick up on for whatever reason

I hope the writers are brave and take the plunge! At the very least it would be nice if they could hint at their future before it ends, you know?

like...it's both a blessing and a curse that byler's relationship has been singled out as special from the very beginning and has always been gifted with the most meaningful and intimate dialogue — to the point where the general audience has gotten so used to that kind of soft, tender dynamic between them that they aren't able to pick up on the romance that's been slowly but steadily developing. and yeah, i love that the shift from the platonic friendship of their youth to the more mature, romantic love as they get older has been so natural, but it's also so frustrating because it's been written so well that people aren't able to see what's right in front of them

That's exactly it

Like...I saw so many people that were genuinely surprised when Will was confirmed to be gay. As if it came out of nowhere! But it truly didn't. There are the casual viewers like the ones that were mentioned in the analysis you posted, the ones that are simply used to them behaving that way so it's just business as usual, and then there are people who simply refuse to see things through anything other than a heterosexual lens. I do know, regardless of what happens, that Will is truly special to Mike in a way that his other friends aren't. I just hope that can be so irrefutably clear to people

Yeah, it is such a good scene. Love that Mike listened to Will and told Will that they will kill Vecna when Will said they had to do that. He really listend and believed in Will.
