Is this a romantic shipper thread? Not that it matters to me, I can totally see why people ship them but I feel like they work better as friends for 2 reasons.

1. I think Petra needs to find someone she doesn't have the history she has with Rafael (the inseminating herself thing)
2. Petra will always feel like his 2nd choice after Jane and I think Petra is a good enough person now to move on to someone's first choice.

But I love when there are special moments here. I wish we had more flashbacks to when they were trying for a baby because they seemed so innocent and adorable and there clearly was a time they were happy together.

Erin, I think this is an appreciation thread for them in general, as friends and lovers. So there's going to be a mixture of opinions/feelings in this thread. Personally, I love them as anything they are. I just love their dynamic and I'm grateful for any scenes we get with them. I think they've both grown as people and you never know what the future could hold with this show.

I'm glad Petra is now a much more complex character, and not just a villain, I like it when even though I know someone is not 100% good, I can also understand ther motivation, and even root for them at one point. There was a good progression. And Rafael is super flawed as well, so...But I still can't ship them, for the reasons Erin said.


Still, I agree they have good moments, and it's nice to know that they were really in love once

I really like them in scenes together, I think they work well together. But I don't know about romance, I think there is a lot of water under that bridge. But I hope they come together for those girls.

Thank you and I love that this will be a mixture, makes discussion more fun. I also find that I fear if/when they ever decide to be more than friends that we will lose the banter between them. Like the scene where Petra totally unleashes on Rafael about Jane getting her dream house I would never want their brutal honesty to be lost in the romance.

Aw yes exactly! I always find the characters who start off as "irredeemable" because you know there's a history there that may not excuse the behavior but it gives you a reason to really root for them and I think Petra has won us all over to the point where she now has to be the woman she is and only consider dating Rafael if she knows she is not coming in 2nd place

I'm torn on whether I prefer them as friends or lovers but like Suz, I enjoy their relationship right now as it stands. If it continues developing organically, I don't mind seeing it turn romantic but I do agree there's a lot of water under the bridge so who knows if they can truly move past that.

Agree with this completely. I feel like Rafael will never truly get over Jane and that's just not fair for Petra and she deserves more.

I loved the flashbacks ... they were really in love at one point so I wonder if they'll ever get to that point again. I think the loss of their child (Petra miscarried, right?) really affected them.

I dont mind seeing it turn romantic either but it has to be written in slowly so that it is believable and that they can make new history together and let the past behind them first - I mean they went through some pretty deep sh.. together and alone and under normal circumstances I would say "hell no" if anyone would ask me if they should get back together but for this show? I see possibilities and I like that

This show is unpredictable and I've liked how all the storyline's have developed so far. So I'm open to the possibility of Petra/Raf being a couple again. Do I think it'll be soon? Nah. Will I be disappointed if it never happens? Nah. I just enjoy the show as a whole and I like their dynamic, no matter what form it takes. I just hope they don't diminish the friendship they've been able to form in s2. Now that would disappoint me.

ok I just finished the show and rafael and anneshka? really? he was with Petra for 5 years and doesnt notice when he is not sleeping with her but her sister? gah lol. wonder how that turns out

^This and I hate misandry. Men get raped and it rape was a huge theme last year. It was sick and if he knew,he'd say no. He sees her as innocent and not really mentally capable of sex. It's not fair since she's just a harmless FOB, but most of them think she's slow. She cares about Petra, they were married and she's the mother of his children.

I've never liked Raf because he's an entitled ass,but I feel like he's grown somewhat. Petra is a major reason, because she calls b.s. Luisa isn't around enough to point out when he's wrong. He still doesn't deserve most of the horrible things that have happened to him. He's been abused by his mother, cheated on and betrayed by his wife and best friend and now he's been raped.

No one said anything because he's an ass and until they went to couples counseling, Jane didn't even realize he was upset or that he needed her. I'll keep this OT by saying that even if we didn't see this onscreen, Petra noticed and cared. She couldn't have said anything because he hated her, but she noticed and cared the way Jane didn't.

You don't have to like Rafael or Petra to scream abuse. Really, you don't have to like any of the characters. Some of them get on my last nerve or I find them boring, but I still wince or I'd be disgusted if something bad happened. I find Lena aggravating, but I still felt bad for her when XO stole her boyfriend and wanted to smack her for acting like a kid instead of an adult.
