Wrestling news keeps on coming. Former W.W.E. wrestler "Ryback" has a stalker that the F.B.I. has not that I know of tracked down yet. I hope that situation ends without anyone being physically harmed. I can post more about this tomorrow after I get to a computer.

Some sad news today everyone. Terry Funk has died.

Terry Funk, WWE wrestling icon, dies at 79

August 23, 2023 / 7:18 PM / CBS News

WWE wrestling icon Terry Funk has died at age 79, his manager Timothy Beal confirmed to CBS News Wednesday. His cause of death was not immediately released, but Beal said that Funk "was in bad health for some time" and was "in a nursing home."

Funk's death was also confirmed in a statement by the WWE.

For Funk, wrestling was a family affair. Growing up in in Amarillo, Texas, his father, Dory Funk, Sr., was a professional wrestler, and he started out as a tag-team wrestler with his brother Dory Funk, Jr., according to his WWE biography.

Funk broke out as a wrestling star in the 1980s when he appeared in a tag team with his brother at WrestleMania 2. He then competed singularly throughout the U.S. and in Japan over the course of his 50-year career, the WWE said.

On Wednesday friends and fans from the wrestling community commented on his passing.

"He was the greatest wrestler I ever saw," retired WWE Mick Foley wrote on social media.

Terry Funk is gone. I just talked to Terry’s daughter, Brandee, who gave me the awful news. He was my mentor, my idol, one of the closest friends. He was the greatest wrestler I ever saw.

If you get the chance, look up a Terry Funk match or a Terry Funk promo, and give thanks… pic.twitter.com/WwdFLwXqZ0

Known as a brawler, CBS Sports reported that Funk's career got a second chance when he joined Eastern Championship Wrestling, later Extreme Championship Wrestling.

Professional wrestler Ric Flair said on social media that Funk was "a great wrestler, entertainer, unbelievably fearless, and a great friend."

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with his brother in 2009. His final wrestling match was in 2017.

Funk was also known for his breakout roles in Hollywood films. He appeared in "Roadhouse" with Patrick Swayze, "Paradise Alley" and "Over the Top."

I wish Terry Funk's family well in this tough time.

Bray Wyatt has been one of my favorites of all time for over 11 years. This is crushing and heartbreaking and one of the first times in a while I've cried. I couldn't think of worse news. His beautiful wife and beautiful children now without their best man. RIP

Well this got interesting
Quote:
Punk and Perry had an altercation shortly after Punk wrestled Samoa Joe at All In in Wembley Stadium. The two reportedly had the altercation over a comment Perry made during the match about the limo he and Hook were wrestling around having real glass, something Punk and Perry had previously had a conversation over after Punk rejected Perry using real glass during a segment for AEW Collision.

Signing with AEW in 2021, Punk held the AEW World Championship twice during his run with the company. After being gone since September 2022 following both a triceps injury and a backstage altercation with The Elite, Punk returned to AEW in June for the debut episode of Collision, a show he regularly appeared on

Thanks for posting all of this news. That is too bad about Punk, but not surprising perhaps.

WWE’s ‘Smackdown’ to Move From Fox to USA Network in New Rights Deal

WWE‘s “SmackDown” is officially set to return to USA Network in a new five-year rights deal.

The weekly show currently airs on Fox but will move to its new network home in October 2024 when the Fox deal expires. “Smackdown” originally began airing on Fox in 2019 as part of a five-year deal between the network and WWE. It had previously aired on USA Network from 2016-2019 and had a number of network homes before that, including Syfy, The CW, UPN, and MyNetworkTV.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources say the new deal is worth roughly $1.4 billion, up from the $1 billion Fox paid in 2019. As part of the new deal for “Smackdown,” WWE will produce four primetime specials per year for NBC, marking the first time that WWE will air in primetime on the network. It is unknown at this time exactly what form those primetime specials will take, i.e. if they will feature live wrestling or if they will be more documentary-focused like WWE’s programming on A&E. According to an individual with knowledge of the deal, the exact nature of the specials is still being determined.

“NBCUniversal has been a tremendous partner of WWE for decades,” said WWE president Nick Khan. “We are excited to extend this longstanding relationship by bringing ‘SmackDown’ to USA Network on Friday nights and look forward to debuting multiple WWE special events annually on NBC.”
