The 2008 Summer Olympics #2 ****SPOILERS (WINNERS/MEDALS) INCLUDED****
The Games of the XXIX Olympiad are currently being held in Beijing, China, from August 8th to August 24th. There are 28 Olympic sports and 302 events that over 10,000 athletes will compete in. This is the place to discuss any of those athletes or events.

To answer the question previously posed, not only is this Bernard's first Olympic competition, but it's only his second major completely international long course meet (and the world was pretty much shocked when France medaled at all in this event with a bronze in Melbourne at Worlds last year). With a little more experience, he'll be even more intimidating.

*sigh* I love rooting for Canada to win medals at the Games, but in the summer olympics it is so hard..I just dont get it
But congrats to the powerhouse Canadian men's eight rowing team for advancing straight through to the finals. Hopefully they can erase the previous disaster that was 2004, and get the gold. __________________

Aww, well you have Alexandre Despatie coming up, and he should have a pretty good chance of winning one of his diving events. I think he's the best chance to upset China's sweep of the diving golds, really.

Yes but Alexandre won't be competing in the 10m only the 3m due to an injury a couple of months ago. He is usually very good at the 10m so I hope he does well at the 3m. He could bring a medal to Canada and I hope so.
I love rooting for Canada also but we are much better at the winter Olympics IMO. I guess all the snow we get does help __________________

He's competing in two different 3m events though, right? Since he's doing synchro as well? I fall into that group who has always preferred his 3m dives anyway, so... *shrug*

Maybe it is my love for the 10m dive that makes it hard for me to enjoy the 3m dive also. Alexandre does well on both but no matter who is diving, I always enjoy more the 10m dive... I will watch him for sure. I read on his thread here that he is also doing the 3m synchro dive.

...Random, but it's so wtf the "This isn't a 4x100; it's a 400... we're a team" quote keeps getting attributed to Phelps. Since, you know, he was repeating what Jason Lezak said. __________________

Misty May and Kerri Walsh are amazing at volleyball. I don't know if anyone's mentioned them in the Olympic thread, but they're totally dominating.
I love watching the Olympics. Even sports I would normally not watch like water polo. Too bad we only get an Olympics every other year.. __________________

I don't remember synchronized (?) diving in the previous Olympics, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it on tonight. I love watching the diving as well. Too bad the young Americans couldn't at least get bronze. But, damn! The Chinese kicked so much. That one dive was PHENOMENAL.
