Possible Board Closure
 

I have been thinking about this the past 24 hours, and I am concerned about the longevity of this board. Unlike many other boards that face this reality, our post counts are not the problem. We have a small but consistent group of posters that make this a wonderful, lighthearted, and easygoing board to post on. But in light of the recent allegations that have come out against Bob, closure is something we need to strongly consider. While we as fans cannot either prove or disprove these allegations (and I myself am still wanting to know more facts before I determine whether or not I can still be a fan of Bob--and his wife, Eliza), I find it completely understandable that many of the regular posters here have already made their decision. Becks will be stepping down as a mod, and I support their decision. Although I am willing to continue serving as a mod, I feel as if this board is probably not going to be the best posting environment for anyone right now, myself included. In fact, I'm looking to take a break from FF in general, and I don't feel it would be right to ask two temp mods to maintain this board right now.

I would like to hear peoples’ thoughts on the possibility of closing this board. For now, at least. It is always possible that, if more information comes out on the situation, the board could be re-opened if enough people wanted it.

Please let me know what you think. The 100 board has a Bellamy/Bob thread where people can share news and chat, so that’s always a place for people to go. I do know this board has been important to a lot of people in the past, and this isn’t a decision I want to take lightly.

I would be sad to see the board go. But I do understand people's feelings in this.

If you choose to close it, what would it take to reopen it later?

I would imagine it would have to go through the voting process again.

Between the allegations that have come out against him, plus just a waning interest in the show in general with this 7th season being what it has been . . . I just don't see the board thriving right now. And it really breaks my heart to say this, because this board (and in fact, this person) has been my safe space for many years now.

Yeah I guess. That might not be easy to do a reopen.

Would it be an idea to wait a week or two before it closes? Just to see what happens.

It is a very tough decision.

Although I’m not technically watching the show, I’ll probably read recaps to find out, so I might still be willing to discuss Bellamy-adjacent things.

We could wait a week, maybe. Give us some time to think things over.

If we wait a week, I will need to be doing some SPARSE moderation, because I need to be offline as much as possible for my own health right now.

Can you request a temp mod?

I am the temp mod. If both mods were to step down, i would be able to handle this on my own until new moderators were appointed.

I understand why you want to close. There seems to still be life in this forum, though, which is always a nice thing.

It’s been a fantastic forum. I used to say I would never want to mod, but moderating this one has been a breeze.

I think, if it were to stay open, I would need to request a temp mod, unless you do feel comfortable on your own, Tina. I might still post here and there, but I also need to take some time to just be offline altogether and sort out my thoughts and feelings. I know that I’m ultimately just a big fan who has met him at conventions, but I do consider myself to have a very small relationship with Bob due to the sheer amount of time that I’ve gotten to spend with him. So this is . . . a lot for me. And I don’t want to sound like I’m diminishing how much it is for others to deal with, but . . . yeah, this is just where I’m at.

And if this board stays open there needs to be zero tolerance for any posts like the one put in the rant thread the other day. I was a bit too shaken up at that point to respond, but I’m glad others did, because posts like that don’t make anyone feel better.

I totally understand where you're coming from. :hug: Personally I still haven't seen season 7 and already expressed that my interest to actually watch it is incredibly low.

The recent events have shaken me quite a bit and I feel like I need to distance myself (for my own personal mental health) from these people and this fandom. I'm saddened by this news and would hope that perhaps there's still other things we don't know, but right now... I just cannot be a part of this. Therefor I fear (while I wasn't around a lot to begin with) I can't be any help with the board either.

Becks, April, Sharon, Mel, Dorthe, Amelia, Sam, it's been so lovely here posting here with you guys. :group_hug: This board will be a special place for me. My heart truly aches if this is the way we go out but it is what it is and I'll support the group's decision either way. I can't bring myself to post here right now and while I might change my mind later on, I have a sinking feeling that I won't. I do think maybe a week might be good to see how it all turns out, but I don't see my feelings on this changing much TBH. And it pains me so much to say that.

I can imagine how tough this decision is for you. Just take a few days to see how you feel about it.

It's very possible that the board would have a lot less traffic after the show ended regardless of what happened bc Bob didn't seem to have anything lined up afterwards, acting-wise at least, so maybe it's the best choice anyway.

I haven't posted here regularly in forever, so I wouldn't be able to help this board and tbh now I wouldn't feel like posting.

I remember that I encouraged you to apply and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

These are hard times. I'm barely at fanforum anymore but I'm sad this board is being closed, but I get you.

I respect you're decision I never saw the news/rant thread but like many after the last season they may not post here and the 100 board has a place to talk about Bob/Bellamy and A Eliza/Bob thread so of course we can chat there :group_hug:
