The endings of the pilot and 1.02 are so important to me, they have Paige, and then Walter, beginning to realize, so early on, that the three of them really will become (and have become now) a little family.

Great analysis of their relationship. I really like what Amber says about it not being like Walter swept in and fixed something. It's more like he was the missing piece of a puzzle that helps them become a whole, functioning unit. And the same applies to Paige and Ralph - they are the missing pieces that Walter needs to function more efficiently in an emotional world and to add meaning to his life.

I don't know if Walter would agree with this yet, but I think he feels a satisfaction from helping Ralph and Paige that he cannot get from solving cases or building jet engines, or even from taking care of Megan. They are the family he never realized he needed or wanted.

I have a headcanon/plot bunny that keeps bouncing around where Ralph's class goes on a field trip to a science center and Paige volunteers Walter to help chaperon.
