Not so good.
 I'm sure we'll pull it back up though.  Thanks, Heidi.I couldn't access the site again on Saturday evening. I tried a couple of times, but it just 'timed out'. It let me back in OK first time on Sunday morning - I just checked quickly to make sure there was not a major issue, but didn't have time to post anything. I do wonder if any other semi-regular posters (or even potential newbies!) are put off if they have the same problem? I wonder if the site is just too big now? There are a lot of individual forums on here now - I only post in this one. __________________

We Moderators have an unrelated site we can go to when
 is down, and we were notified on Saturday night that there was an issue with the servers that host . Of course, unfortunately, there is no way for us to let the rest of you know. The site was down for a few hours. I don't know if that problem is at all related to other problems and slowness we've experienced. __________________

What Heidi said. Site slowness is actually why the "300 posts" rule exists, even though it's obsolete now since our servers can handle threads with more posts, but back 20 years ago when the site started, stuff would crash if a thread had too many posts. Of course this was well before any of our time on
and well before my time on the internet in general.  We just all got so used to starting a new thread at 300 posts that it's remained a rule even though technically the reason for the rule doesn't exist anymore. If you go to the Requests board you'll see threads with thousands of posts, and those are allowed both to keep that board uncluttered and because the site can handle it now.__________________

Fortunately the folks who maintain the boards are pretty quick to respond when there is a problem.
