Mostly dedication.

I seriously hate it when a local sports team is in post-season games. The news - and a lot of other shows - can't talk about anything else.

So... it's reruns on Netflix.

WeBuiltThePyramids 06-04-2018 08:40 PM

Netflix is always a good option. I'm spending tonight at work just listening to podcasts.

Vacation countdown!

So -

1. IF my project's phase 2 launches this week or next and...
2. IF my brother manages to find a plumber who can fix the leak in my laundry room and...
3. IF the aforementioned phase 2 doesn't introduce a whole bunch of new issues and...
4. IF the stars align - not really a requirement, but it feels that way...

... then I might be able to take my first vacation of the year in mid-July. :fingers_crossed:

Whoo hoo!

FoxPhile 06-06-2018 04:50 PM

It appears my first assessment of the laundry room leak was correct - I need a new water heater. Oh the joys of home ownership!

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna keep renting.

So a friend of mine, the one I stay with when I go to Lexington, she went to the barn to ride her mare after I left to go back home this most recent trip, and she went to swing her leg over and it caught the back of the saddle, so she overcompensated and ended up going over the top of the horse and falling headfirst down the other side. Her elbow was all scraped up and her knee really hurt - to the point she couldn't drive her car. One of her roommates convinced her to go into the doctor today and she fractured her kneecap.

OUCH! Did that myself when I was 17. Not by flipping over a horse. I slipped on ice and landed smack on my knee. It was not fun and it hurt like a....

She's in a brace now and can't return to work until Tuesday. She had next Saturday off - we had plans - but now she's not sure.

On a better note, I'm getting my next tattoo on Friday! :woot:

Possibly.

I'm not a big fan of professional team sports, and I tend to wonder about the sanity of people who go completely bonkers when their local team wins a championship. I have to say, though, I'm rather proud of the residents of my city and how they've celebrated the Washington Capitols hockey championship so far. Hockey fans can be particularly - enthusiastic. There has been some crazyness around here. But there's been no serious damage, no fights, no turning cars over in the streets or setting things on fire.

That said, I'll be glad when it all dies down and things get back to normal.

WeBuiltThePyramids 06-09-2018 10:31 PM

I love hockey but just college (ditto with basketball, I can't sit through a pro game).

Now horse racing, I have spent 12 hours a day for 3-4 days in a row at the racetrack.

One of the things I find most amusing watching Madam Secretary is how much it apparently snows here in DC - and how life goes on despite it.

I can see that the Secretary, with her motorcade and all that, would probably be able to get just about anywhere she wanted to go. The thing is, there wouldn't be much point unless she's going to the White House, where the key employee has a truly easy commute. Even Congress shuts down if we get an inch of snow. The whole Federal government and most of the private businesses do. Especially these days when so many people can work from home. The image of Elizabeth McCord blithely taking a stroll through a snow-covered park with her husband or some diplomat is just ludicrous.

WeBuiltThePyramids 06-10-2018 05:49 PM

Shows just like snow. Even the ones set in SoCal find excuses to use snow.
