A lot of them have surface preferences. A horse named Maxfield, who recently retired to stud, he was undefeated at Churchill but rarely won anywhere else. There have also been horses that flounder at Churchill but rarely lose anywhere else.

I admit that I'm not that knowledgeable about the differences in surface beyond dirt and turf, fast and muddy. It makes sense though that different tracks, even if both are dirt, might be different based on the make-up of the dirt, how the track is maintained and probably a dozen other factors.

Exactly. The big ones are the makeup, how much clay, how much sand, etc etc, as well as how well it drains. Like Churchill, they can get a foot of rain two hours before a race and that race will be run on a fast track. If that happens at the track in New Jersey, they would probably cancel.

My laptop is conking out. It's been held together with duct tape for months, and today it randomly shut off on Roxanne and I three times while trying to record. This next podcast ep we are calling the Frankenstein Episode since we are stitching together 4 audio files (3 from audacity, one from google voice calls or whatever it's called) to put it all together.

It was a pain, we finished up super late for me time wise and I slept like crap after having a stressful day. But I didn't have the office job today, so it was fine. I work the next five.

Went to the eye doctor this morning and thank goodness the pressure in both eyes is way down.

I had an emergency vet visit for Eliza today; she has colitis. Gave her some meds, and they did a blood panel which came back looking good, but of course I'm worried about her. And that wasn't a fun visit so closely to my vacation, both for stress and financial reasons.

Thank you. She appears better today, less stressed, and is continuing to have an appetite which is good. I'll know in the next couple days how her meds are working.

I've been binge-watching vet shows lately. It amazes me how vets can figure out what's wrong with an animal.
