I wonder if Cabe decided to back off of the fatherly advice after the Toby/Boxing thing. It seems he sort of backed off after that. Maybe he thinks he's just not equipped to be advising a bunch of geniuses - even on the things he comprehends better than they do.

If so, that frustrates me even more, honestly. You can't just give up on trying to help your kids. That's what every parent on the show has done at one point or another, except Paige.

I don't think that's true. Cabe had a very sweet and fatherly conversation with Toby at the end of White Out ("That's love, kiddo.") and he tagged along when Walter tried out speed dating to make him more comfortable. His change in behavior at the end of the finale seemed very sudden and out of character to me.

To me, it was one of those cases where the writers wanted him out of the scene so they could do their Toby/Walter scene so they just had him leave. I can't come up with a character excuse for it, unfortunately.

I think you're probably right, Nicole. The Toby/Walter scene just wouldn't have worked with a third person there - so they needed to get everyone out of the garage. It would have been nice if they'd given him some plausible reason. I'd have even accepted him going to check on Happy.

Or even just him having left prior to the proposal...but Hell, leaving after he could have been going to hide Toby's keys so he wouldn't drive and go to a casino/be reckless and crash. Not flat out tell an addict to drink his sorrows away KAY BYE SEE EVERYONE LATER.

Cabe has such a soft spot when it comes to love and family. I'm sure he'd encourage Walter to follow his heart. Walter would probably still say something about that not being the organ where his feelings originate.

Plus, Cabe knows both Walter and Paige. So he already knows how good for each other they are.

And yeah, Walter would talk about how the feeling originates in the brain. Totally.
