i think the Bond Girl thing kinda died out a while back, probably because of image changes, cultural norms, equality renaissance, other changes in the way women are viewed or portrayed, too slow to be honest but still all changes are for the better.

Bond films are essentially a product of the era in which they are made... so they have gradually been improving in their portrayal of women, and those changes have absolutely been for the better.

To the point where many of the female characters in Craig's Bond movies have been complex and fully-developed - every bit Bond's equal. When I first saw Casino Royale, I was convinced that I would be offended... and then Vesper blew me away. It's also significant that Dame Judy Dench played M for both Brosnan and Craig's Bond.

Though it may be a problematic term, many fans still refer to the female characters as "Bond girls" - but mostly as a historical reference - ranking and comparing them to Bond girls in the past films, etc. So in that sense, I don't think Bond girl has really "retired" or that we've seen the last character that could be called a Bond girl.

It's a pretty fascinating group of actresses, and they have made the term empowering.

most of the modern films starting with Goldeneye, you could consider the women much more femme fatale roles, most are quite dangerous and capable. i wish they had kept Jinx as a recurring character in the Bond family of agents, and still am quite sad to see Vesper gone.

Did you like seeing Ursula Andress in Bond films? I'd say that there have been in improvements in the portrayal of Bond girls. I learned that in the original ''Casino Royale'' film, Jacqueline Bisset played an uncredited character called ''Miss Goodthighs''. She was a SMERSH agent. Barbara Bouchet played the role of someone in that film who went by ''Miss Moneypenny''.

i do like the older films like Dr. No and Goldfinger, but a lot of the female names are so sexist and cringeworthy in the modern sense. ugh.
