It was pretty pivotal moment for Thomas as a character because Newt was probably one of the reasons he kept going because of that scene.

Exactly!!!! Thomas/Newt's friendship is so much deeper then what the movies show... they needed to show that scene in 'TST' because it shows how important Newt and Thomas are to each other and how important their opinions are of each other.

I wish I knew an upbeat song that would suit these two, they're all sad songs unfortunately

I think Wes definitely made a mistake in cutting the scene, I'm sure there were other scenes in the film that could of been cut instead of that campfire one
