Salem 2x11 - "On Earth as in Hell" Episode Discussion (June 14)
On Earth As in Hell (2x11) June 14th, 10/9c on WGN America As the Countess and her son move against two of John Alden’s valued allies, Mary suffers under the yoke of Puritan oppression stemming from an alliance between the Marburgs and another of Mary’s powerful enemies in Salem. But even as she seems to be at her most hopeless, Mary tries to take advantage of a widening schism between mother and son. As John and Cotton proceed with their monumental and unfamiliar task, each must process new information and gather strength to aid them in what lies ahead. Meanwhile, wracked with guilt and sorrow, a mournful Isaac pays a surprise visit to an already somber town gathering, Anne Hale finds the fate of many may rest in her novice – but powerful – Witch’s hands, and John and Cotton get the first glimpses of the enemy they are facing. Cast: Janet Montgomery - Mary Sibley Shane West - John Alden Seth Gabel - Cotton Mather Tamzin Merchant - Anne Hale Ashley Madekwe - Tituba Elise Eberle - Mercy Lewis Iddo Goldberg - Isaac Walton Joe Doyle - Baron Sebastian von Marburg Oliver Bell - Boy Lucy Lawless (Guest Star) - Countess Marburg Jeremy Crutchley (Guest Star) - Hathorne Raoul Trujillo (Guest Star) - Shaman Cara Santana (Guest Star) - Sooleawa Written by Joe Menosky & Adam Simon Directed by Nick Copus |

Excited to see what happens in tonights episode with John and Cotton but especially John and the Countess! I've wanted them to have a scene together since I read Lucy was joining so I'm so excited!

I can't stand Sebastian, he is a momma boy and a punk ass bitch, he never fights fair, pushing that doc into that pit and using magic against John and all this cause he wants Mary? GTFO oh but Mary being ridiculed like that and Countess bailing her out while tryna get at John and the boy at the same time is too much. Love the father son moments despite the exorcism which I'm still confused if was successful or not?

BEST EPISODE SO FAR!
All the moments between John and Little John were amazing - and I think we are meant to assume it worked but who knows...did nobody else notice Little John when possessed saying it was actually thanks to John not Mary that he was able to take the vessel - such a great twist. Jotton = I am so excited for next week and we just know Cotton will save John but now that he's wounded, it's probably a good thing Cotton knows Mary is a witch if John wants to enlist his help even further in saving his son. The fact he was sacrificing himself at the end of save him - father of the year |

Exorcism was interesting and freaky. Cotton finding out that Mary is a witch was my favorite one of two favorite moments, his whole world collapsed when he realized he killed his father because of Mary.
Another moment was Mary and Isaac conversation about choice, she knows he's right. I hope they can be friends again! He is really a wise man, not a village idiot. Was Countess pretending to be Anne? __________________

I think Cotton will for sure only help because he cares for John but I think he kind of hates Mary now because after the touching moment with his father, he'll have to wonder now if that relationship ever could have been...

This was a great episode. I was cheering for Isaac when he carried Dollie's body into the church and read the Puritans the riot act. I feel bad for him as he's been a scapegoat since the beginning through no fault of his own. I also hope he & Mary can become friends and/or allies.
Did the exorcism work? Little John said at the end that there was something inside of him. And YES, I'm afraid that Anne was really the Countess. Maybe I'm wrong & hope I am because I'm all about happy endings - for witches too! Sebastian is just a pig!! Hate him & that's all I have to say about his role. __________________
