Salem 2x06 - "Ill Met by Moonlight" Episode Discussion (May 10th)

Ill Met by Moonlight (2x06)
May 10th, 10/9c on WGN America

The Countess Marburg arrives in Salem bearing gifts for the citizenry and advice for Mary. As she plans her next move, her son Sebastian remains preoccupied by less puritanical matters. While Anne Hale reflects both guiltily and gleefully on her recent activities, Cotton Mather – fueled by magic, alcohol, or perhaps by true emotion – comes to blows with another of Salem’s powerful leaders. The ensuing battle leads to an outcome that might either help or hinder Mary’s plans. John Alden pursues his deadly mission and – finding himself seriously weakened by his recent and repeated uses of unfamiliar magic – seeks respite in a familiar place... with surprising results. Meanwhile, Cotton makes a measured confession, two of Salem’s most damaged residents continue to find solace in each other, Mercy encounters a potential new ally, and Mary seeks out help from an unexpected source.

Holy crap!! This was such a dark episode.

The first part with Mary trying desperately to revive George was hard to watch.

The Countess was so creepy with Mercy and poor Dollie. So we see her fate but what happened to Isaac?

I see that Tituba stopped John from killing Anne but now what?

I'm looking forward to see what comes of Anne/Cotton and her spell over him. Her little familiar is quite intriguing and I wonder what role that little mouse will play.

Not sure if Mary will end up being seduced by the son of the Countess and what's up with her reincarnating Increase.

I really enjoyed this episode - but obviously with John being my fav I'll write some of my thoughts on his moments;

I see that the tattoos etc are really taking their toll on him, the fact that "Petrus" told him that he is almost as dead as he is, and the angry red burn mark on his chest...yikes.

I really loved the scene with him talking to himself (when he thought he was talking to petrus) and how you could see a flicker of the old John cross his face when he said he was still in love with Mary....those two need a reunion soon!

I was slightly like, are we really supposed to believe Tituba could overpower him but then I suppose he is so weakened at the moment he wasn't fighting back with full strength.

Can't wait to see what happens next week - I'm sure he won't give up anything easy.

Anne is growing on me and her struggles are quite interesting to watch. Can't wait to see what happens to her relatonship with Cotton. I want a spinoff with Brown Jenkins.

The Countess is deliciously evil, I love it!

Poor Dollie and poor George!

I think it was a good decision, story wise, to kill off George. It was almost making it too easy for Mary to hold her position of power within Salem.

I agree & besides, making George swallow Mary's familiar was getting too gross to watch. Plus all of the other weird stuff.
