I think she'll perform again. I just have a feeling her music will change after this experience

Because they were still "negotiating" things and didn't know if she'd be dead by midseason. I do not believe those rumors or their refusal to flat out deny them was just coincidence. I don't think her decision was made on January 1st, but I think it was made after they had to start writing for S5.

I completely agree with Crystal that the producing gig should have been mentioned before Deacon brought it up. Even if it was just an off line from Avery to S/G about how he was offered the job/wasn't sure he was going to do it/how Juliette would probably be happy to get him out of her hair. That way when Deacon brought it up, WE don't have the question of where the hell this gig came from and what kind of decisions were made between J/A regarding this job/Cadence/Juliette's care. Of course only some people will care about those minor issues anyway, but I'm one of them.

Also wholeheartedly agree that some of those scenes were repetitive. How many times we gone talk about this damn album? Is that what it take for Rayna to realize she's pushing too hard?

I'm not falling into despair about this imbalance (yet). I'm willing to give it a few more episodes, but I won't be buying this one.
I don´t think she had decided one way or another before shooting started, but it´s obvious that they were negotiating still when shooting started. So it´s clear why they did some things and another part of that it´s that new show-runners have said they were especially excited to write deyna.

As Deyna fan I´m not complaining, but I understand why javery fans are frustrated.

I just thought of something. How come Noah wasn't in this episode? He would've been in the scene where Rayna talks to the Exes, at the very least. And he may have also been in the scene where they did the interview.

I wonder if this is a cost-cutting measure by CMT. First Glenn is missing and now Noah. And Emily was only in 502, not 501 as she would've been in the past.

You mean Noel. But you're probably right. He would have been there. Guess they didn't feel like having him there for just that one scene.

Really? All this time I thought his name was Noah.

Noah West was Juliette's co-star boyfriend. S/G's manager is Noel Laughlin. I've made this mistake before myself!

I think it's because his first name ends in an L and his last name begins with an L. They sort of run together. Anyway, now I know, and hopefully Noel won't be a stranger.

It would be a shame if Noel was gone.

‘Nashville’ Season 5 Premiere Sets Ratings Record For CMT In L+3

If anyone's interested there's a video of Chip performing a tune on that page.

Doux Reviews: Nashville: Back In Baby's Arms

Sorry for taking so long time. I had a creative standstill.

Such a good review, Telepath. Really like this part:

As crazy as the ride has been over the last four years, Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are resolved to buying it, and to dealing with the fallout of previous events in as reasonable a manner as possible. They are taking what they have identified as the constant traits of the characters over the years and asking themselves, "how would this person react to that?" That's a distinct departure from the former way of thinking, where people resembled balls in a pinball machine.
Really agree with this line. I know the old writers were creating on an assumption that Nashville might not be picked up for a 5th season which must have put a strain on them, but I wonder how the new writers would have written 421, especially the Avery/Layla scenes and most especially the last scene where he says, "You're crazy and we're done." (That's the one line in that episode the old writers got right IMO.)

That line still puts a smile on my face.
