SmackDown Discussion Thread.
It's not getting any love around here lately, so maybe like with ECW and TNA, we can have a catch all thread for the show every week?
I'm catching up on the past month or, um, two off my TiVo right now and after finally getting to watch him in full action, I can safely say that I hate MVP's gear. I don't care for him period, but in that get-up, he looks like a pimped out Power Ranger. King Bookah!~ is so losing that belt at Survivor Series and that makes me sad. Loved Kendrick/Regal from this week (I think?) and Benoit/Finlay was some good chain wrestling as well. |
LMAO...."pimped out Power Ranger.". But I agree...I hate his gear...seems like he's missing the other half of it or something.
Anyway nice idea for the thread. I've also been slowly tunning in too and I have to say....I like the team Ashley has been paired with. London and Kendrick. They have great potential. |
Ashley does work with them well, as their valet.
This is the first SD I've been home to watch 'live' for in, like, ever and I'd highly reccomend it. Kendrick/London vs MNM and the Finlay/Bookah/Batista triple threat have been great. The only truly bad things will probably be JBL's awful commentary and the Vickie/Chavo junk ("Chris Benoit is a woman beater!" No.). |
I'm so tired of the Chavo/Rey/Beniot/Vicki storyline. I wish it would just evaporate already.

I tuned in at the end where Kane came out and both Kennedy and MVP were in the ring with Taker. Love seeing the Bros of Destruction together again. :sigh:
I was hoping Ashley wouldn't do Playboy...but I guess not. :look: Age, I completely agree. |

I love that they are putting UT and Kane together again. It's like fire and ice. :D
|
Me likes too...especially seeing how they scare the new guys too. :goof:
|
I dislike the new guys on SmackDown. I was watching old wrestling matches from the late 80's/early 90's and I couldn't help but note how all the wrestlers like Shawn Micheals, the Undertaker, and Jake the Snake Roberts have grown since then. I don't know if I can see myself saying wrestlers like MVP, the Boogyman, and Ken Kennedy are destined to be in the hall of fame one day.
|
I agree, but I think it's an issue bigger than just SD.
I don't expect anyone to be the next _____, but most of the young or new talent in the WWE right now, outside of a few, just doesn't seem to have that elite potential. Even when a quality guy is stuck with an awful gimmick, you can almost always still see that there is hope there for more if Creative would just improve the situation. With currently pushed guys like Kennedy or Masters, Umaga or MVP, Knox or the Boogeyman... nothing. It's a bit worriesome. |
If I never see Ashley attempt to wrestle again, it will be way, way too soon. Not even Jillian -- who needs to be moved to Raw already, WWE -- could carry her to not sucking entirely this week.
I liked the beat clock idea this week. |
I liked that beat the clock idea also, until Chris Benoit lost his match to Ken Kennedy. It is back to square 1 for the Rabid Wolverine. Darn!
Besides that though there were some good matches on SmackDown this week. Chavo VS. Kane was a quality match that went longer than I thought. There was a time where I would have expected Kane to defeat Chavo Guerreo in less than 30 seconds, especially in a timed match, but Chavo did well. I want to point out 1 more thing about the ''Beat the Clock'' idea that is happening on SmackDown. Chris Benoit, The Undertaker, & Kane are 3 of SmackDown's best wrestlers who have not had World Heavyweight Title reigns for years, but more than likely none of them will be in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Royal Rumble 2007, although the WWE is making it seem like anyone could be in that match. Unfortunately the only person who I think will realistically have an good oppurtunity to be able to challege Batista for the World Title at the Royal Rumble this year is Ken Kennedy. |

This is what being a top tier performer is all about from a strictly industry stand point. He is also very marketable as well. This is why I predict he will be one to watch in 2007, because I feel he is going to get a SD title push after Wrestlemania, because he does the one thing a lot of wrestlers don't do any more and that is generate heat -- in the general sense of interest in his matches -- Wherever he goes and this is the other part of this business a lot of the more pushed wrestlers can't do, IMO even though they are paid a lot more than Ken Kennedy is. |
I think Kennedy has a good deal of potential, but, outside of his intro, his heat comes from who he wrestles right now and when he's not in the ring with a vet, he still can look really green (which is odd considering how long he's been apparently doing this). Sticking him in main event scene permanently and then saddling him with the big title chase any time soon would be a detriment, IMO.
I'd love to see him spend 2007 working a lot with Benoit and then switching eventually over to Raw to maybe run a feud with HBK later in the year after he's gotten his knee cleared up, if possible. If both of them want to (or are persuaded to), they could help him move in the right direction tremendously when it comes to doing the little things. Quote:
I was expecting something probably passable and got a really nice little TV match in its place. |
