Sounds good to me. And thanks for the new thread! One more closer to 100.

Okay, reposting this for our little ficlet experiment about a Mash pre-FM marriage:

Mary wandered to the window as Monsieur Baudin droned on about the importance of Latin. A fact she was keenly aware of, being as she was raised by nuns in a small convent tucked within the hills of southern France. With a deep sigh, she pressed her forehead to the glass. Oh, how she would rather be out of doors with Sterling than trapped inside this stuffy room. Shadows danced across the tables and books the tutor read from, unaware of her movement or even her presence.

Down below, a young man with dark hair strode across the grounds with a careless freedom she wished she possessed. She knew with certainty that it was Bash, her finance's bastard brother. Brown leather clung to his lithe form, a dreary color to some of the ladies at court but it had captured her eye from the beginning. He was almost one with the earth and the trees he loved so dearly. Abruptly, he turned toward the castle, as if he sensed her scattered musings. She could not see his eyes but she knew they glittered with a wildness that no other man at court could reach. It was a quality that awakened a peculiar yearning within her.

Hello everybody Well now you've done it! You've made me come out of lurkerdom and retrieve my old fanforum login information and everything (I actually forgot I'd even registered years ago, until the site informed me of this when I tried to re-register with the same email address...oops!) so that I can try to participate in this Mash fic writing thing 'cause it looks like too much fun.

Excuse me for butting in? I've loved reading all your posts about Mash... especially yours wistfuldreamer...almost always agree with you, and I love your writing style, so don't be insecure about your fanfic! - but I was too lazy or shy or both, to join in the conversation. Also too upset by The Death of Mash and all-around awful writing on Reign, to even feel like talking about the show much. (Damn you, Laurie McCarthy.)

But I just love the idea of going back to the pre-Frary marriage days, since I prefer to ignore current canon anyway. (Although I guess I referenced it in a sorta ironic foreshadowy way below? Poor Bash, hating arranged marriages. Little does he know! ) I also like the idea of group-fanfic-writing since it's a bit less intimidating. But please feel free to ignore my attempt and carry on the fic without me! My writing's probably rusty. And lame. And nothing much happens in my little section of the fic anyway...easy to ignore! It's just some "recap" of Mash meeting in the Pilot, and Bash thoughts, obviously inspired by wistfuldreamer's beginning... I wrote his to kinda echo Mary's thoughts ('cause they're SOULMATES, eh? ) Hope you don't mind the echoing/re-using of your words, wistfuldreamer! Can't promise (or threaten? ) to write any more...but this was fun and I want to thank you for sort of helping me get over some of my fear and writers' block! Okay then. Here I go. *gulp*

Sebastian looked up at the window, but the sun blinded his view. Was that Mary, trapped behind the glass? He smiled, picturing her lovely eyes drooping and those tempting lips pouting in restless boredom. No, he did not envy her neverending royal duties. His smile quickly faded at the thought of her sheltered convent upbringing, her destiny laid out before her, and constant threats upon her life. Even if she was engaged to his brother, how damnably unfair to promise a mere child in marriage. The idea of any arranged union - the lack of freedom, of real choice - horrified him. If he was a heathen for not believing in God's divine plan for Kings and Queens, then so be it.

He resumed his walk, thinking back on their first meeting with fondness. Mary's refreshingly blunt assessment of Francis, her lack of concern for her safety, or propriety - how she danced, and encouraged those stuffy nobles to dance with joyful abandon. The honest outpouring of emotion over Sterling, and her vulnerability and loneliness had touched him deeply. A girl so inclined to speak frankly and act impulsively, a girl so naturally wild, was ill-suited for life at French Court. At least he could avoid most of the pretense and politics, being nothing but a bastard. She would be forced to adapt to survive. He shook his head. Morbid thoughts, but he could not help fearing for the girl who must deal with the enemies of the Queen.

It was not his place to protect her, but Mary needed someone she could trust at Court, and he had promised to be her friend. Who better than a bastard with no hidden agendas or ambitions, who wanted nothing from her?

Well, that wasn't entirely true, but he resolved not to force his attentions on her - only to be there if she should want him. There were times when her eyes met his, he would swear that she did want him, perhaps as much as he yearned for her.

^ I might have gotten a bit heavy handed with the start of it, just to set things up. I'm going to shorten my responses so consider rejoining the effort since it's not as much fun without you.

Welcome crispy! So glad you came out of lurkdom and joined us. Thank you for the sweet compliments, I tend to ramble on and on so I'm always surprised that the things I say make sense to someone besides me.

And anyone is welcome to write, it was meant to be a group effort.

Oh geez, where to start? It's all been said better by others on the forum, but... I don't like the time jumps and lack of real consequences for things that should be *major* (like Francis locking Mary up)... I really don't like Frary and the way their relationship is treated like epic love, when it's just so unhealthy. And yay (boo) for sex solving everything. I miss Mash and their actual conflict resolution! I thought that made them more mature and endgame-y, but it turns out...Laurie just didn't want *them* to have sex 'cause she ships Frary. Don't like the sudden character development (regressions? inexplicable transformations? I'm thinking of Kenna, but even Mary and Bash have changed in ways I don't like and/or don't buy)... I was very disappointed when things that seemed like cool foreshadowing, never went anywhere...when storylines that belonged to Bash (like him being the one to kill Henry) ended up being given to Francis. And I don't want *Francis* The Forced Hero, to "save" Mary (or lecture her) about her hardened heart. Sheesh. I saw Mary and Bash as the heroes of Reign, y'know? I really hate the showrunner's attitude too. Just... unprofessional. Also, I might be in the minority on this, but I miss the relatively...well, not *lighthearted* exactly, but somewhat less dark and depressing Reign. I hear they're promoting season 2 being even darker. And with more sex ...for couples I don't root for/have emotional investment in, so who cares? Mash was so...moving and meaningful. Now Reign just seems...shallow.

Oh no, please don't...last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from writing. Plus it puts more pressure on *me* to participate. Sorry I wrote too much! Believe me, it's not likely to happen again.

You're all very kind to encourage me, but I'm glad I wrote something insubstantial, with no real plot/action happening, because now nobody needs to pay any attention to it and you're all free to write whatever you want without me wrecking any momentum with bad ideas and so on. Okay, retreating to lurkerdom for now and really looking forward to reading wistfuldreamer and sourburst and anyone else who joins in. Please join in? I don't want to ruin the fun!

Mary ambled adroitly down the hallway and escaped into the grounds. The warm air claimed her, its humidity filling her lungs with moisture. Her dainty physique elevated across the courtyard and vanished within the canopy trees. She was acquainted by the familiar scent of summer, the forest green demanding her soul.

This. This is great! When I was reading your post, the whole time I'm going
Never apologize for ranting! I love reading rants and it can feel really good to get your opinion out there.

The writing for the fic you did is awesome! Don't be afraid to add more -- your writing is great!

I also want to give a shoutout to everyone who has been writing these group fics. They have been amazing and things like those are what keep me going! So great job everybody and keep writing

Hope I'm not butting in here! I don't always know what to post, (or where I fit in) but that doesn't mean I'n not enjoying reading what everybody else is saying

I agree with Jade! It's usually just 3 regular posters here so it's always great when more people decide to post along with us. It makes it more fun.

heh, I know what you mean Jade. Time for Mary to run into his arms already.

Quote:

As Sebastian dipped out of view, Mary retreated from the WINDOW. "Excuse me Monsieur Baudin, I fear I do not feel well." She quickly slipped by the startled man before he could respond to her thin excuse. When she stepped into the hallway, she took a deep breath. Freedom.

Shaking her hair free of the pins that held it, she giggled as she scurried toward the open gardens. A few more steps and she'd be alone- "In a hurry, your Grace?" Bash stepped from the shade of a nearby tree, a slow grin spreading across his face.

Mary paused abruptly in her step, so tersely she almost lost all hopes of her dainty balance and collapsed head over heels. She caught herself and pulled her wits from out of the dry soil, straightening herself. Her weight not as sharp as her intelligence.

“Bash! I’ll beg you not to taunt me,” she sighed with a hand on her stomach.
