Ugg. Adam is awesome but I cannot fully get behind Bothwell knowing his RL counterpart. I know that he isn't [or at least not as of yet] anything like RL Bothwell but it won't leave my head.

Same. I really want to love and trust Reign Bothwell, but I can't seem to get past historical Bothwell. I guess seeing Mary "love" another man other than Francis makes it even more difficult for me to grow attached to the guy, too.

Frary really has nothing to do with it honestly. It's so bad I'm actually team Darnley. I almost hope they make Bothwell a dirtbag just so i can stop trying to like him.

Frary may not have anything to do with it for you, but where Mary and her romantic prospects are concerned, they will always be a part of it for me. I know it's unfair to compare any other man to Francis (or any other relationship to Frary), but I can't help it. I'm trying so hard to like Bothwell, I really am. But I look at him and ask myself if this is really the "love" that Francis prayed that Mary would find. Ugh. As loyal, dashing, and romantic as the man appears to be... I still don't trust it. And then I think about his real-life counterpart, and the idea of watching Mary swoon and give her heart to him makes me nauseated.

Same. I suppose I can admit that I'm "Team Darnley" too. What can I say? I love the guy. I think the character (and his relationship with Mary) is so complex and intriguing - including shades of the real life Darnley's flaws. Bothwell, on the other hand, is being played as a straight romantic hero, which just doesn't ring TRUE for me. Perhaps the development they show for his character in the next couple episodes will change my opinion.

Regardless, Adam is fantastic.

Exactly. I just don't like him and hope they didn't have time to shoot too many lovey-dovey scenes because I hate him. That's all.

OMG. I'm so glad it's not just me. So many people on twitter keep gushing over Bothwell and hating on Darnley. And I'm just like whhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy? Yall do know what happens right?

^ AGREED. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who isn't a fan. Like I said, I really want to like the character because 1) Adam is awesome and he seems to really support his character and Bothwell's relationship with Mary, and 2) so far, Bothwell hasn't done anything particularly hideous. But... we all know the history. Perhaps they can keep him a decent, loyal person while explaining what history tells us, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Really wish we could have seen what they would have done with his character if they had gotten a Season 5. Given that he killed Darnley with his bare hands, it would have been interesting to see what he is capable of...

Just watched the first episode Adam appears in as Lord Bothwell, although I keep thinking of him as Papa Hook.

So far they seem to be portraying him as a decent guy, but if I'm remembering correctly, his real life counterpart was not a good man. I'm curious if his true nature just hasn't revealed itself yet or they are going with a different version of him.
