Bringing discussion from the previous thread.

Even though we haven't gotten Francis's POV much since MF married we do see him in passing meeting courtiers and having clearly been briefed on everything he'd missed - they packed quite a bit into the bickering between FB - which were the types of things Bash found tedious. Francis seems to not, or just knows it's part of the job.

I've always thought it silly to blame Bash for falling for Mary - though the way the writers went about it was also silly - feelings aren't terribly controllable. Actions are. Any apologies needed should be reserved for the latter.

But ep 16 was only the beginning, Bash had only started slowly opening up then they were interrupted by crazy!Henry.

I'm pretty sure we will have more in the next episodes.

Tania, I do agree with your addendum to what I said. I wasn't meaning it should have happened in 16. More it's something that should happen at some point.

Lol, we're sharing some part of a brain today! Because, yeah, that was more of something I'd like to see, not a gripe about the prior episode.

Not a big fan of some of the comments toward the end of the last thread. Let's keep it civil around here. Thanks.

I really hope you're right, Tania. There's so much left unsaid between them and I want the show to take time to really rebuild them beyond the easy fix we saw in 1x16.

If you don't like something somebody says just ignore it.

I struggle with Francis' character because he does very little in most recent episodes. Ever since the whole Mary comes up with a dumb plan to save his life because of a vision, it seems the character gets less and less to do. This episode finally revived my interest in him. For one thing, he finally had scenes with other people besides Mary. Sometimes I swear the writers forget that he has other connections around the castle, thus other people he can talk to Now that Bash is back and they both know their father is crazier than usual, I can only hope they will continue to join forces.

Also, I agree with others that Bash owes Francis an apology for falling for Mary, not so much because he "tried" to take Francis' throne. That was never something Bash actually wanted, so I don't really understand why the writers would chose for Francis to focus on that.
Yes they need to join forces. I think it will make their bond unbreakable! I do like Henry i think he's funny but the brothers need to take him down.

Yes the last episode really brought Francis back to life, his interaction with Bash was awesome. But before that I was frustrated with his mantra 'Bash betrayed me, I love you Mary'.

The moment he mentioned how him and Bash used to sneak away, I was like, there's Francis why has he been hiding under a rock , come out please!

I really hope they do, I think with the prospect of a second season, they can put the triangle on hold for now (I'm pretty sure they will reignite it during the finale though) and show some brotherly moments.

It is interesting that Francis mentioned how Bash and him would avoid the Queen of the day festivities hen younger, and now they are pretty much stuck with the Queen of the day .

I think the next couple of episodes we'll see Francis shine as he protects his country and family from his father's madness. I think him realizing that the day of him becoming King isn't just in the far future it's nearing. And that will really allow us to see that side of Francis from early on in the season.

Bash will focus on the darkness as master of horse and hunt, and Francis will no doubt enlist his help with their father. To protect their family, their brothers etc. Bash is instinctively protective so I think he will grow to care for Kenna as she is his wife.

Is it bad I want taking care of Henry just to be the brothers (and maybe Catherine) I do not want Mary involved. It can be their dirty little secret

It seems more likely that the brothers will move forward in their lives together, as brothers.

It's looking good.

Actually, their protectiveness of those they care about is a common trait between them. How they differ is how they go about it.

Bash is instinctive, action sometimes even before thinking. Pushing the peasant I think is a great example. Gonna say again I don't actually blame him for doing it, though it was a horrible act. Francis is more strategic. He thinks and plans and tries to work things through before he acts. That's just how he is, eps 3 & 4 are both good examples of this.

The fact that there are differences even in their commonalities is what makes them interesting and let the audience see that the writers really have made efforts to write two distinctive characters with them.

I honestly hope the triangle is over for the remainder of the season, at the very least. As of the end of 1x16, it seemed like it would be. Bash seemed resigned to the situation, even though it will pain him for a while. The important thing is I think he finally realizes that getting in the way of his brother's love for Mary and Mary's love for Francis is fruitless, and will only end up hurting everyone involved.

I want FB to stay brotherly, and that won't happen if MB happens again. I'd say FB would be irreparable at that point.

Love this post, Laura. This is so true. Both are good men, by nature, but they approach obstacles very differently. Bash is a man of thoughtless action, Francis is a man of thoughtfulness that can sometimes delay action. Bash breaks the rules to achieve his goals, Francis uses the rules to his advantage.

I would argue that if left to her own devices, Mary is more like Bash. That's how everything got so out of whack. Mary acted rashly, completely running on emotions, without stopping to think about the repercussions of her actions (something Bash does often). Bash fed her recklessness and encouraged it, while Francis tempers it and balances it out.
