Heartbreakingly beautiful.

So, we've made it to 3x05. The YT channel that's posted the Frary scenes uploaded this episode in 5 parts, so I'll just leave the first 3 parts here for now. Not sure if I'm ready for the last 2. I'll be back to post some thoughts later.

Oh boy, 3x05 time .

I know. But that also means that we're close to their final reunion in the afterlife.

A few thoughts on the 3x05 scenes in my last post:

* Mary in the chapel thanking God that Francis is alive. She's just so grateful. I love the moment when Francis gets completely distracted by Mary's beauty and he just stops listening to her. And she's all backlit and looking like an angel.

"You are so beautiful. If you could see what I see." ~ "I'm quite happy with my view." Ugh. So precious.

* The scene where Francis is teaching Mary to sail. Again...so precious. First, they look gorgeous - like they are straight off the cover of a romance novel. Second, all of the sweet quotes from Mary, declaring her devotion.

"You are my most precious possession." ~ "You are my home."

* Even as Mary is signing away her claim to the English throne, these two are looking adoringly at each other. And their smiles when Francis surprises her with the trip to Paris, and their giggles as they run to the carriage. They are just so completely HAPPY. But of course, this bliss can't last long... as the little girl gives Mary those flowers and the white petals from Nostradamus' vision fall to the ground.

* Ah the carriage ride. I really love the throwback to the pilot - Mary catching Francis' eye as she danced with her ladies at his sister's wedding, and "feathers falling from nowhere." In that moment, they both remembered that pillow fight when they were children, and they both knew that they would be wed. They were meant to be together. It's perfect. Then Mary uses the word "fated" and you can see Francis cringe ever so slightly. When Mary notices, he plays it off, but he's clearly thinking about Nostradamus's predictions and his mother's warnings. Then we are blessed with another hot carriage make-out session.

* SKINNY DIPPING!! Everything about this scene is adorable. I love the fact that it was Mary's idea to go swimming and leave their clothes on the shore. And I love that when she suggests it, it doesn't even take one second for Francis to agree. He can't get there fast enough. The way they smile into their kisses as they help each other undress. The playful splashing, and the way Francis grabs her and kisses her shoulder blade. Finally, I love the song choice - so sweet and upbeat. "Together we're GOLDEN."

* Making love on the shore. Their final moment of bliss. It's so beautifully shot, with the sunlight poking through the trees, and the leaves and branches hanging in the foreground. The spot is so peaceful and secluded, and it truly feels like the viewer is witnessing this incredibly private, intimate moment between these two. They are so utterly and completely absorbed in each other. I don't know what else to say. It's simply glorious.

*Sleepy Francis waking up is just... And it's so funny when he offers to go get their lunch from the carriage, and Mary's like, "Not like that you're not."

* Frary's final kiss. (In this life, anyway.)

* Our brave, heroic Francis when he sees the tree from Nostradamus' vision. He is overcome with fear, but he still runs towards Mary's screams and into certain danger.

* It's so difficult to rewatch what comes next. Seeing Francis' beautiful golden head repeatedly slammed into the ground is beyond upsetting. And the desperation in Mary's voice as she screamed his name - helpless to stop what was happening. The relief on their faces when the assassins are defeated, and their smiles just before...

Alright... here we go.

Season 2 really was hell for them.

And they were torn apart so early in season 3.

*sigh* I knew shipping these two would be a mix of positive and negative feelings.

It was sorta out of character for him but nonetheless adorable


As always they make a good team and yes, Francis mentoring Charles was nice though poor Charles was so freaked out when Francis fell from the horse Btw, I think I read somewhere that the real Francis fell from horse too (after showing temporary signs of getting better) and then they had to put him to bed again.


I agree Also the fact that she desperately wanted to refuse to believe that those were his final hours (“the end?don’t say that” ) and then the way she grasped his hand and held him so tight while lying beside him, as if she wanted to keep him for herself forever, and of course her trying so hard to fight the tears


Ah, these two scenes were so bittersweet, sad and yet beautiful and touching. There were 3 times that tears actually fell from my eyes while watching a reign scene; first Catherine/Francis scene in 3.03, second this scene where they were imagining their children followed by Francis’ first death, I mean literally the entire scene was so heartbreaking; starting with Francis gasping, being so weak and in too much pain, you could even see he struggled so much to start to talk, and then somewhere in the middle where they were imagining their “beautiful dream” a single tear dropped from his eyes [at the thought of the life they could have had; “it’s such a beautiful dream” ]. And don’t even get me started on how desperately Mary told him to fight and after his death, her shock and extreme sadness along with begging him to “come back to her” (P.S: of course the third scene that made me cry was Francis’ death in the next epi along with Mary’s reactions after it).


Ugh, IKR? Couldn’t they just give them a little more time? but yeah, the scene itself was beautiful, I also loved that little throwback to 1.19 “you came back to me” along with her repeatedly stroking his forehead


Keri, I enjoyed reading your post about half of 3.05 as well, you summed up and described everything perfectly first let me start by saying that the first half of their scenes in this epi were absolutely adorable but unfortunately knowing what comes next, never allowed me to fully enjoy them, so I guess they are the definition of bittersweet for me, lol.


I loved it too, so adorable and even more than that, I loved Mary’s response to him


So precious indeed both of them looking great along with that beautiful view behind them again (the sky and the ocean), and of course their adorable interaction with each other and yes, all that Mary told him after that, was touching And, can’t add anything to what you said about the carriage scene, you said it perfectly



I loved those things too, I mean the way she smiles at him and sorta bites her lips while suggesting that (like she was totally seducing him, lol) and of course he couldn’t resist, looked at her in a adorable way, smiled and immediately told guards: “wait for us here” and their smiles at each other when they were undressing each other, is definitely one of my favorites, it totally shows the pure joy they were experiencing and yes, all the other details you mentioned were absolutely lovely


“absorbed in each other” is the best way to describe it again don’t have much to add to what you said, only this: god, the way they look at each other especially at the beginning of the scene, and then when Mary was touching Francis’ cheek and right before he reached to kiss her neck and her kissing his shoulder at the same time.


Ah yes, he was adorable waking up (though his head was a little hurting already ), but the minute he saw Mary’s face he smiled the scene was sweet overall, with the lip kiss, the little hand kiss, and her touching his face/lips/chin and him watching her leave with a smile on his face


Aw, yes poor babe was so terrified but still that didn’t stop him from running to rescues his love


Ugh SO hard, sad and painful to watch indeed

Sidenote: I loved Francis and Catherine’s scenes in this epi as well; Catherine clarifying she never wants power if it means losing him (even though she is a power hungry ambitious person, and this fact made the whole thing even more precious ), Francis clarifying that he understands all she had done was for her children, and then Catherine referring to him as “her golden child”; “what is France without my Francis?” (btw, I loved that after this epi, at least half of Reign fandom were like: “what is Reign without Francis?” lol.)

So lovely to see you here in the Frary thread, darling. That's great that you're doing your own Reign rewatch! If you get a chance, post some of your thoughts here (or in any other appropriate thread).

I understand that. When you ship these two, you have to take the positive with the negative. It's quite a journey.



That's what makes it so cute. It's fun seeing someone who is usually so mature and brave acting...well, the opposite. I feel like I'm getting a little glimpse to Francis as a little boy.



They're a great team.

Ah, yes I did feel sorry for poor Charles when he had to witness that. Of course he was freaked out - the idea of losing his brother and being forced to rule when he knows he's not ready.

I do think I heard something about Francis falling from a horse in real life.



Ah yes, she didn't want to believe it was the end.

The way she grasped his hand and held on to him. Beautifully said. And Mary fighting back tears.



All three of those scenes you mentioned were designed to elicit tears. They touched all of us.

Yeah, I didn't mention how much Francis was struggling. And the single tear. The life they could have had truly was a beautiful dream. What might have been...

Aw yes, Mary begging him to fight and not give up on their dreams. And then after he slipped away, pleading with him to come back to her. She just kept saying, "Not yet."



The "come back to me" parallels are awesome. They go all the way back to the pilot and the song "Back to You" by Twin Forks, and of course 1x19 and 1x21. I love all the throwbacks.



Agreed. They have so many sweet moments in the first half of the episode, but it was impossible to fully enjoy them knowing what was coming next. Bittersweet is the only way to describe those scenes. I remember the first time I watched the episode, I was filled with such... dread.



Yes, Mary's response was so sweet. After the pain of Season 2, it was refreshing and reasurring to see her so open with her praise and affection.



You can't beat Frary with the sky and ocean in the background.

Francis seemed so shocked the she was willing to give up her claim to the English throne (her birthright) and never go back to Scotland again. It was lovely to see her reassure him that their life together was more important to her.

Oh, forgot to mention the forehead kiss.



Ah, I love the little lip bite. She was totally seducing him.

Pure joy is the only way describe it. I'm so glad that they got to have that experience before the end.



I feel like I can make this comment in every single episode where these two share a scene: THE WAY THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER. The details you mentioned from this scene are perfection.







Yes, poor boy's head was still hurting. I love the little smile when he saw Mary's face.

Ah I adore when she touches his face/lips/chin. I mean... there are no words. He's stunning.





So courageous. It was his choice to freely lay down his life for her. That's true love. The man sets the bar ridiculously high.



It's not something that I would ever willingly rewatch on my own.



I could not agree more. The Francis/Catherine scenes in this episode are just

"What is Reign with Francis?" I'm sure we've all asked ourselves that question once or twice.

Alright... in the hopes of not making this post too obnoxiously long, I'll come back later to share some thoughts about their final scenes in 3x05. And if people are around, I will post the first round of the survivor ASAP after that.

Hope everyone's been doing well! A virus pretty much knocked me down last week (made worse by my own anxiety/hypochondria ), but am doing a lot better.

Yeah I honestly still don't understand why they were pulled apart so early into season 3 when they had only really gotten back on track after season 2 ended. I know they wanted to take the show in a whole other direction post Francis, but I still feel they could've waited for the first half of the season to be over at least. They could've had more time together and the show could've still changed direction in the same way. Oh well.

Well, I just don't think I could ever truly put my thoughts on the second half of 3x05 into words. All I know is that I wouldn't have gotten over my grief in losing Francis without my amazing Fraries here on .

If it's alright with all of you, I'll just move on to the end of our Frary's journey. Feel free to share any thoughts you might have on these scenes and our eternal endgame.

Absolutely. So much beauty came from that pain. I just rewatched the final montage and I'm still in shock that we were so blessed. The journey may not have been perfect or easy, but the destination was as close to perfection as you can get. #EternalEndgame

The first Frary Hands Porn survivor is ready to post (mostly). Even though it doesn't look as clean and uniform, I decided to use gifs (rather than stills) because they show the moments so much better. I just have to work out where it would be helpful to add in a couple still images to give a better view of the hands. I'm not the most talented photo editor, and the stills aren't always the best - but, I'll make it look as pretty as I can. I'll try to post it in my next reply here.

Anyway, I'm gonna go with 3 now, but I might switch later, lol.

P.S: I might post some replies whenever/if I get the chance to properly read back through the thread but for now, I'm just gonna say this: I hope you are completely well now Andrea (sidenote: I thought I was the only one here with anxiety/depression/etc issues, lol).

And yes, shame on you for not noticing their hands in #2. Seriously, it's easy to miss, but it's one of my favorites. She's stroking his hand with her thumb! They look married before they are well... married.

I'll go with #3 as well. The only reason I included it was because it was in the original "hands" survivor that they did here years ago. But it's such a quick moment I didn't even remember that it happened.

Ahh I love that piece from the last LMSR convention about the last Frary dance. You know, I don't think I had seen that interview before. Thanks for bringing it here, Mina. Just hearing Toby talk about the scene gets me all overwhelmed with emotions.
