This is such a good season! TFTNT!

TFTNT!
What I liked about season 4 is that Rigsby, Van Pelt and Cho all got storylines of their own that lasted several episodes. It hadn't really happened in earlier seasons. Also lots of people from Lisbon's past! :D |

Lisbon has a FAMILY!!! Who knew?
I certainly hope we get more of Annie and Tommy. That girl is a delight and I love how she and Jane hit it off so well. Even though she wants to be a badass cop like her aunt, something tells me she's going to be a bit of a maverick and will probably be a thorn in the side of her superiors - but one who closes cases so well, they find themselves forced to overlook some of her unorthodox ways. ;) I really like Tommy, too. Although if he thinks Teresa is the once to give Annie exposure to "girly" things - he's got another think coming. I'm glad Teresa seemed to realize in the end that she does need to let her brother make his own way in the world - however he can make that happen. |

I adored Annie too

And Madi loves that we do-sometimes I'll mention her in a tweet about Annie and she always favorites or replies.

Gah! I've finished season 4 and I'm on to season 5.
This makes me so sad, because the season 6 DVDs don't come out until September :bawl: I've determined I'll need to start over again at the beginning to grab more nuances from this show. As I write this, I'm referring to an episode guide to just remind myself of the highlights of this season, and I keep coming across things I don't remember . I guess when you binge watch it all becomes a bit of a blur, and it's a shame to do something like that with this show. I think I need to set a schedule so I can really savor the episodes instead of swallowing them whole. :P Season Four has certainly been a wild ride. There seems to be no lengths to which Jane will not go, and just when you think he's finally cracked, it's all just an enormously lavish plot. There seems to be an emphasis on the outlandish in this season. Van Pelt's visions of her dead fiancé and getting close to the edge with Visualize; Cho getting involved with Summer (who I love, BTW) and dealing with addiction; Jane's bizarre dealings with Erica Flynn (loved seeing Morena Baccarin again!) and then with Lorelei - oh my! To say nothing of the return of Brett Stiles, who seems to be playing his own con game with his inner circle, and gaining (I think) a certain begrudging respect from Jane in the process. Episodes I loved: 4.06 Where in the World is Carmine O'Brien? - What an awesome introduction into Lisbon's backstory. She's a terrific sister and a really great role model for her niece. It really shows more of how under her very pragmatic exterior, she's got a lot of love to give. 4.10 Fugue In Red - Seeing Jane revert to his former persona is quite a revelation, as is seeing how frantic Lisbon is when she finds him nearly drowned, and the lengths she goes to to get the real Jane back. Sorry, Patrick. She can't let you be happy if it means losing the Patrick Jane she knows. And that's not completely selfish on her part. It's very true that Jane's tragedy has made him a better man. 4.15 War Of The Roses - MORENA! Erica and Jane have a synergistic energy when they work together. It's as if the effort to constantly best each other brings out the competitive edge in both of them and makes the combination so much better than the sum of its parts. 4.23 Red Rover, Red Rover and 4.24 The Crimson Hat - I didn't realize these were two separate episodes when I watched them. Or at the very least, I thought it was a two-part episode. Watching Jane lose it so completely was mesmerizing. I was convinced he had finally cracked and I figured that Lorelei's revelation had only put the nail in his proverbial coffin. In a word - I was totally fooled. :) |
I love all of your post except Erica Flynn. Even before we knew she was evil in S3, something about her rubbed me wrong from the start and her two episodes are the only two episodes of The Mentalist I have never re-watched. I was actually afraid when I started Firefly that I wouldn't be able to like her character because I hated Erica before I had reason to hate Erica and was afraid that my chemical being actually had something against the actress.

I know Erica is evil, but that's a part of why I enjoy watching her, and especially enjoy watching her interact with Jane. She's as much a student of human nature as he is and is one of the few characters on the show that comes close to matching his intelligence, his craftiness and his ability to read people. I see Erica and Jane as very similar in many ways. They both can be completely unscrupulous in their ability to use people to get what they want. The difference is that Jane's previously rapacious nature has been tempered by the tragedy he's endured, while Erica has never faced great loss. Erica gives us a glimpse of what Jane might be like if it weren't for Red John. |
