I can see that they are both manipulators, and both of them think of themselves as superior to the people they manipulate. But Sherlock takes it to a much higher level. And Sherlock has almost no ethics about it, while I think Jane does. Jane will manipulate people when he needs to - and when he was working as Mentalist, he did it with very little compunction. But I think now he has more scruples about where he applies his skills and why.

Actually I wanted to do some art of the newer seasons, those I may never get a chance to watch.
I promised a roleplay buddy to make up later seasons Jane so I'd need to collect some caps to try my rusty hand.

Actually when I first started to watch Mentalist Sherlock was my first impression towards Jane's behaviour. And particulary this BBC created Sherlock made me think of Jane.
I have watched Elementary and to be honest it never caught my taste like BBC did. It might be because of that particular portrayal of Sherlock that Ben did so flawlessly and breathtaking (IMO).
And while it is just me blabbering about my taste I am absolutely loving Jane and Sherlock. And can agree that Simon and Ben plays them so well I cannot imagine anyone else bringing out their characters the way they do. Okay enough whorshipping, I try to explain my opinion in foreign language

Jane and Sherlock are two blimey bastards and I love them. Funny how I always went for suding up with Jane or Sherlock while their partner always whined about some crazy stunt

I always wanted to slap a hand on Lisbon's shoulder and tell her to not worry that Jane knows what he's getting into and she just needs to wait it out and prepare handcuffs and gun.
Maybe it tells something about me but who knows, I might be just like Jane and Sherlock, crazy for stunts

I love both Elementary and the BBC Sherlock, but I agree that Benedict Cumberbatch brings something so amazing to the character that is unequaled by any other portrayal I've seen. What Simon did with Jane was very similar. He took a character that was quirky and probably unbalanced and made him lovable as well as uniquely brilliant in his approach to both crime-fighting and life.
