It's bright and sunny outside - and freezing! :cold:

Well not really, it's about 60 F - but it's very windy, and so it seems a lot chillier than it actually is. I was going to get a car and just go for a drive since I had yesterday and today off - but not really roll down the window weather. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

It's 54 here, but sunny and no wind, so I'm out in a tee shirt.

<sigh> I knew it was too good to be true.

I was planning to buy a car in May or June, by which time I'll have enough money saved up for a decent down payment without digging into my "real" savings. I just got a call from my brother, who tells me his lawn mower just died. He has a big yard, and there's no way he can mow it with anything less than a good riding mower. So there goes a big part of my down payment and it will probably be late summer before I can get that car. :(

Aw, I'm sorry. :( We mow our yard (2 acres) with two hand mowers. It takes us about six hours with all the trees we have.

My brother's house sits at the top of a small mountain, but it's actually really flat up there - like a mesa. He has two very small trees and the rest is just flat and grassy. But it's a lot of yard and he needs a riding mower because of his heart condition.

I've gone without a car for over five years. I'm sure I can make it another couple of months. :D

That sounds like an amazing place to live.

I just wish he would do more with it. There's so much land there, he could have a nice garden and supplement his groceries. We've even talked about putting in a small golf driving range - he loves golfing. But since he's gone on disability he just sits around and complains that there's nothing for him to do since he's not working anymore. And the thing is, although he really cannot work, because he doesn't have the stamina to last an 8 to 12 hour day, he definitely could do some gardening or something out there as long as he paced himself. But he seems to think nothing is worth doing unless you make money at it.

Aw, that's a shame.

Very sad about the violence happening in Baltimore tonight.

I understand that people are upset, but the sorts of things that are going on have nothing to do with protesting injustice.

I just want it to be Saturday already...sitting in class is so agitating.

I can only imagine how antsy you must be, wanting to be heading to Kentucky already!

Well in 24 hours I'll be on my way! Probably well into Ohio already, since we're leaving around 5am!

My brother's girlfriend is from Louisville, Kentucky. She was born and raised there, and lived there until she was well into her 30s.

She has never once been even near Churchill Downs.

I suspect this is probably pretty common among Louisville residents, but to my family it is simply unfathomable that someone could live right there and never go to that track.

One of the first things we did when we first moved to the Baltimore area was to go to Pimlico - and we even went to the Preakness once.
