I do believe that Mycroft genuinely cares for Sherlock. So it seems strange that he would want to take Sherlock away from the support system he has in New York. With his work, Joan, Bell, and Gregson. I know a lot of people think that the person on the other end of the phone call is Moriarty. But I hope not that is a bit too obvious and I don't think Sherlock would ever forgive his brother for working with Moriarty.

I hope he isn't working with Moriarty and we will find out that the phone call wasn't anything bad!

I don't know if it would be too obvious if Mycroft was working with Moriarty, it was my first thought, but I also think it wouldn't be very original. I hope it's something else, something Scotland Yard / government related.

Perhaps someone in London wants Sherlock for something and it has nothing to do with Moriarty? I just really hope the show doesn't go there, it's just too obvious.

it all just seems a little suss because Mycroft had to cover it up... if it was something legitimate he would have probably just asked Sherlock upfront!
my only two guesses are that it has to do with Moriarty or that it is some top secret government thing.

Perhaps it's Lestrade wanting Mycroft to get Sherlock back to London to use him again. In many interpretations of the stories, Mycroft has a job within the government as a high up man. Perhaps it is that?
